Do I Need Software?

Someone has just asked me this question about a machine I own and I can't answer it because I have always had embroidery design software. My Brother ULT 2001 has only a floppy disc and a Brother card slot, not a USB port. If you have designs on CD, and need to transfer them to a floppy disc, do you have to have embroidery software, like Embird or PEDesign or Origins, or can you transfer them directly from disc to floppy? Or can you transfer them and just not see the designs on screen? Am I making sense at all? I'm stumped but willing to learn and to pass on my knowledge.

I have a D1 with a floppy. If the design is on CD, I have to download it to my computer and use software to write the floppy. The software writes it in the correct format which is SHV. I have 3D software, but I know embird will work.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

you shouldn't need embroidery software to transfer the design from the cd to the computer or to floppy. If its a multi format CD and the design is in the correct format to start with you just copy and paste using windows from the cd to the computer. You won't see an Icon of the design just the name and file extension like - lion.pes or something like that.

Writing to the floppy disk if your drive is connected to the computer depends on whatever program came with the floppy to write it. this doesn't have to be embroidery software its usually its own driver. I still have an old sony 3.5 external drive that came with a laptop and my old HP laptop has one on board. they run with drivers to write to them not programs.
