I've used a number of the no-roll waistband interfacings but just the past year, I discovered contour waistbands and just don't see ever going back.

I can't seem to find the right interfacing for them. Any suggestions? I'd like something soft against my waist but that does provide a bit of support.

thanks..

I have used Form Flex in contoured waistbands and I like the results very much. I can't remember what prompted me to buy the Form Flex in the first place, it looks like lightweight muslin with shiny glue on one side, but in an adventuresome moment while sewing I tried it on an RPL and it was a success. The medium and tailor weights that Palmer Pletsch make aren't bad either but I like the woven Form Flex best.

I use contour waistbands all the time. I only interface them with a light iron on interfacing (the sort with dots that adhere with the iron) but make sure that they actually fit my shape.

I understitch after attaching the facing part and then either machine stitch in the ditch from the right side if the contour waist is also on the outside, or just handstitch the facing to the darts and seams if its just a facing.

It seems to work pretty well and there's no crumpling, though I have almost no ease, and have the generally sitting below the waist.

Do you perhaps use the interfacing on both sides...the front and the facing? I haven't tried that

Does the Form Flex stretch at all? It doesn't sound like it has any give...which is ok, as long as I plan for that...

I can't seem to find a local source for any of these...

I use Palmer/Pletsch's Medium interfacing. Don't worry about the interfacing not having any "give" Part of a contour waistband is cut on the bias and this is what allows the "give". You want a medium weight interfacing that doesn't have any give. This is what gives the support. The bias gives the comfort. HTH

I like Pro Weft from Sew Exciting on the waistband and a lighter weight on the facing. But as Ruthie said the band has to fit perfectly or it will wrinkle no matter what you use.

Since it is a woven it has "stretch" on the bias. I agree with the what others are saying, that if a contoured waistband fits perfectly it won't want to wrinkle up and doesn't need to stretch. Think of it as a contoured belt that fits your shape just right.

Ok...thanks to everyone. I'm going to take a hard look at how well (or not) my waistbands are fitting to make sure that I don't have a fitting problem instead of an interfacing problem.

Then I'll try either either pro-weft, flex form or palmer pletsch on the waistband. Should I use regular old lt wt fusible on the facing or is there a better product?

Thanks again for all the great info. I'm afraid finding an interfacing combination that works is partly knowledge and trial and error.

I use Palmer Pletsch's light or even Sew Excitings sheer, or nothing if the fabric is heavier. I personally don't want the waistband to stretch or it will not stay up for very long! Especially if you are using a stretch woven. I also tape the waist line with a fusible stay tape but not the lower edge of the band. I know that this is recommended, but I do want the lower edge to have some give to it and I haven't liked the results when I tape the lower edge. The other issue that I solved, is that your pants or skirt has to fit perfectly at the upper hip, and not be too long. If you have a crotch depth that is too deep the pants will wrinkle below the waist which in this case is your band.
