Date: 2/3/10 7:02 PM I usually need to do a FBA on the big 4 patterns. Will I still need to do that on the Burda Pluse patterns?
I recieved my first Burda Pluse Magazine today. All those lines on the pattern sheets are kinda of daunting.
pattern 430 jacket made from sweatshirt fabric? Not sure about that. I want to make pattern 424. Blouse with chest insert that has small pleats around the outside.

Subject: Burda Pluse Patterns Date: 2/3/10 7:46 PM Maybe, depending on what size you are. How much of a FBA do you normally do? ------ Visit my blog at http://sewingsaga.blogspot.com

Reply to AdaH Date: 2/4/10 7:42 AM Ada, I replied to your other post regarding the FBA's, too.
I looked at this pattern and I think you could definitely get away without an FBA on top 424. It is pretty loosely fitted. It doesn't even have darts.
You could always measure the flat pattern to see if there's enough ease. Or you might be able to get away with a cheater FBA and just change the size lines at the bust. This is all I have to do with the Burda magazine patterns. (If I did an actual FBA in a Big 4 pattern I would need about 1/2 inch.) ------ "Why be difficult?.....with just a little more effort, you can be completely impossible."

Date: 2/4/10 12:45 PM Thanks you for the information. I will measure the pattern for sure. I always have mixed feeling about what is best to do, FBA or just add to the SA? ------ Ada

Date: 2/4/10 12:45 PM Burda Plus patterns are drafted for at least a C-cup and probably a D-cup. I don't need a FBA in them - which makes me very happy!! - and I do a 1" FBA on Big 4 patterns. (I still need to lower the bust point, however, which is part of the FBA on other patterns.)
The 424 shirt sure looks like it fits loose so you're probably OK. It does actually have a dart - it's hidden in the seam of the bib insert, from the shoulder down to almost the bottom of the bib. |

Date: 2/6/10 3:37 AM I sew from the Burda mag all the time, both the plus and normal patterns. I'm a C cup and and I actually use my high bust to choose which size to trace (44 for tops and dresses, merging to 46 at waist and more at the hips). I generally don't need an FBA, but I check the pattern width after tracing for the odd one that needs extra room. |

Date: 2/6/10 11:58 AM Not having to do a FBA would be wonderful. I received two back issues of Burda Plus this week. Now to decide which pattern to sew. All those lines on the pattern sheet remind me of the interstate exchanges in Dallas. ------ Ada

Reply to Kayseri Date: 2/11/10 3:38 PM I'm trying to get the hang of the Burda Plus fit and having some trouble. According to my measurements I should cut a 48 skirt. When I sew from their regular draft and cut a 46 and add some additional room, it fits. When I cut a size 48 in their Plus draft, the skirt winds up too big. Has anyone else had this issue or is it just me? |
