Date: 2/16/10 3:02 PM Thinking of buying the Brother 780D but having trouble picking. A dealer offered me one for $899. Do I have to have a disney machine in order to do disney designs? Do I have to use brother software with this machine or do I have other options? The software from the dealer sounded expensive.
I want to be about to decorate my kids clothes and monogram things for people but I want to get a machine that won't limit me in my design options. Is there a better machine for a budget of $1000?
Thanks! Next page>> |

Date: 2/16/10 4:08 PM The 780D includes the Disney designs, but you do not have to own a Disney machine to stitch Disney designs, just the design card.
In the Disney models, the designs are built-in to the machine.
I have the PE-770, which is the same model without the Disney.
Since I have no young children to stitch for, I didn't need the Disney. The PE-770 sells for $799, so in essence you are paying $100 for the Disney designs.

Reply to labeelady Date: 2/16/10 10:55 PM Just checking, so if I get the brother 770 I can buy Disney cards and use them? The dealer said I had to have a Disney machine so that really confused me. Are you happy with your 770?
Thanks! Next page>> |

Date: 2/16/10 11:26 PM You can use other software programs with Brother machines, Embird is a good one. There are lots of others you can check out. With the Disney, you actually do have to have a Disney machine to stitch out most of the Disney cards. There is one, Taste of Disney that you can use on any PES format machine. However, and someone correct me if this has changed, all of the other Disney cards do require a Disney machine. This is a trademark thing required by Disney to protect their interests. If you plan to use alot of Disney, then by all means get a Disney machine, it's worth the extra few dollars. Keep in mind, you still are not allowed to stitch out any Disney designs and resell them. Disney is very adamant about that in their agreements.
If you don't think you'll use the Disney much, then maybe the extra $$ might be best used for other accessories or designs.

Reply to Jillian in OK Date: 2/17/10 12:52 PM Prices from different dealers in different parts of the country are not the same. So what is a good price in OK may not be a good price elsewhere.
A more important question is, will this dealer give you good after purchase support. If you have not done machine embroidery before, you are more likely to need dealer support than someone who has done machine embroidery before.
Having said that, that price is comparable. As far as comments that you are paying $100 more for the Disney machine ... maybe or maybe not. Depends on your area of the country and a multitude of other factors.
Assuming your dealer is worth purchasing from, that price is in the ballpark of prices for these machines.

Date: 3/11/10 4:12 PM I have the Brother 780D and I really like it. I got it at Christmas time. The way I understand it you DO have to have a Disney machine to get the Disney designs to work. My rationale was that I had a new great niece (grandniece?) and I wanted the Disney for her, but really I just wanted the Disney. I have found it to be very easy to use. I did a lot at Christmas time and only now starting up again (I am taking Jennifer Stern's PR Machine Embroidery class). The class is teaching me how to embroider with the right way, stabilizers etc. It's funny I can play to my heart's content but now that I'm official I'm a bit intimidated. Like I said I really like the machine, it is easy to use, does beautiful embroidery (even if you are a novice who plays with it right out of the box), and it is a lot of fun! I paid $999 for mine. If you have any questions please feel free to email me: koshless@yahoo.com.

Date: 3/12/10 8:44 AM I love, love and triple love my 780D and $899 seems a good price, I also paid $999 before Christmas this year. My dealer at the time didn't have the 770 in stock and I liked the option of being able to do Disney designs in the future for any possible grandkids that may come along (my DD is getting married in June). It is so easy to use and I am very happy with it. I am using Embird, which I am still learning to use but works well so far. Next page>> |

Date: 3/15/10 6:05 PM I agree with the others who advise you have to have a "D" on your machine or you can not embroidery the Disney's designs. Please also be aware if you embroider and sell some items you can not sell Disney. You may, however, embroider the Disney designs and give the items as gifts. Be sure to also let the registered trademark, little R within a circle, stitch
out. Should you go to a Disney Park and the trademark is not on the shirt/jacket or whatever they will ask you to remove the item of clothing or whatever the design in on.
Disney gets very serious about their copyright and trademark.
If you get the machine you will have a ball and enjoy embroidering a lot. Next page>> |
