Date: 3/10/10 8:20 PM Thinking of getting one to clear the clutter when stitching.
Is it a good thing or a nusance?
Mount on back of machine or stand in back of machine? Stand behind, I will need to take to cover off the top of my machine.
10 thread big enough?
Have a preference of model or manufacturer?
Where to purchase if you have a favorite?
Or just put up with the clutter of threads in front of the machine
Thanks to all. Janice Next page>> |

Date: 3/10/10 9:46 PM I like my thread stand. I have it on the back of my Bernina 730E. Probably the most valuable thing is that it helps keep the threads at the proper tension since there is a serger-like wire thingy that holds the threads up in the air...until they go down into the machine again. That was my worst description ever...but you get the idea!

Date: 3/10/10 10:04 PM I have the same thread stand as Brenna and I would hate to give it up. It is so handy ... and I use it all the time, not just for embroidery. If you have a finicky thread, it seems to help keep the right tension on it. I'm sure the stand alone ones are fine too but I just haven't used one. ------ Patti

Date: 3/10/10 10:57 PM I bought a multi-spool stand for my Diamond only to find out it didn't fit. Because I had opened it, my dealer wouldn't take it back -- It was for the Designers. She said I could sell in on consignment (I paid $85) so I decided to keep it and just put the spools on it in order. Well, Viking came out with adaptor clips that cost me around $12 more. Haven't used them yet because had to rearrange the machines -- the threadholder was too tall and hit my shelves. They can be adjusted, but I would have to unload everything. I think the holder will be very helpful once I start using it -- haven't been using my Diamond much because it's such a chore to pack and unpack everything when it's so much easier to use the #1+ that is already set up unless I need to embroider -- haven't in a few weeks. ------ Total fabric on hand: 1/1/12 1598.9823 yds.

Reply to dodger Date: 3/11/10 1:08 PM I have the multi-thread stand that sits on the back of my Bernina and I use it sometimes, sometimes I don't. I always have to remove the spool to wind back the thread tail. Most of the time, I use a metal single-cone type, change the spool out one at a time, with my spools lined up like ducks in a row on the table. The multi-thread stand will keep most of the spools off your table, depending on how many colors, so that is a plus. Next page>> |

Date: 3/11/10 4:47 PM I have a stand that used to sit behind my embroidery machine and I loved it so much I moved it over to my sewing machine to handle large spools of thread. Instead of buying another expensive thread stand, I use a plastic thread box for my spools of embroidery thread and run them thru one of those weighted single thread holders and then thru the machine. This is cheaper than my thread stand and keeps the thread handy on the table when I am doing embroidery.
I keep it to the side of my embroidery machine so I can see the thread easily.

Date: 3/11/10 7:01 PM I have one of those multi spool thread stands (Bernina) that mounts to the back of my machine... I never use it. Instead, I prefer and nearly alway use a cast iron single thread stand from Superior Threads. ------ Bernina 830 ✂ Bernina 630 ✂ Bernina 1300MDC ✂ Babylock BLCS ✂ APQS Millennium ✂ Juki TL2010Q ✂ Singer 201-2 ✂ Singer 301 ✂ Singer 401A ✂ Singer Featherweight 222K

Date: 3/11/10 7:20 PM I'm glad to see this discussion because the Bernina multi-spool stand has been on my wish list for my new machine. It's very pricey at around $100, and I think I've decided it's something I can do without. ------ Bernina 830LE, Bernina B530, Bernina 1300MDC Next page>> |

Date: 3/11/10 8:59 PM I did find an alphasew 10 spool stand for 40. It is a clone ofthe Brother one for 70. Or do I want one on the machine, it sits a bit higher to access the threadspools.

Date: 3/11/10 10:21 PM After posting, I got to thinking. Almost $100 is a lot for a thread holder. I have a little holder that fits on my thread spindle in the vertical position that I use a lot. It is about 6 inches high. It fits the Diamond so I don't know if it would work on other brands. It has the wire thing that goes up like the multi-spool holders but only holds one spool. My dealer said it won't fit the Designer's spindle. I use it especially for Sulky thread which tends to pull off the spindle too fast. I have better success using RA when I place the larger spool on the table in front of the mchine and then up through the guide and over into the tensions. To me it is just as easy to use the big holder that someone mentioned a few posts ago if you can't get one of these. They used to be used to hold serger thread spools for use on a regular machine and were first made at least 10 years ago but still available.
I really don't see the need for a multi-thread holder. You still have to thread and unthread your colors. It is just as easy to just line them up on the table. (Of course I did buy the one I have, but can see where I really don't need it.) Actually, I haven't reorganized enough to be able to use it in my sewing room so it is just sitting there holding spools of thread.
Edit -- You could buy over 15 spools of RA or 20+ spools of Sulky for the price of this thread holder. -- Edited on 3/11/10 10:23 PM -- ------ Total fabric on hand: 1/1/12 1598.9823 yds.
