The latest JoAnn sales flyer has a foam flip chair pictured. It's clearly a very simple thing (3 thick foam cushions plus a roll....)

Has anyone made one of these or do you know where I can obtain instructions for how to make one?

Thanks!

There's an old pattern (McCalls 8074) from the 80's that includes instructions on how to make a chair like this. Well, it doesn't have the roll pillow top, but that would be easy enough to figure out.

Here's a link to McCalls 8074. Don't know how long it will be there, though.

There's currently one on eBay also.

Ok, I actually have this McCalls pattern and I dug it out. It is basically three cushions. You could make them anyway you want. This pattern uses 3 foam squares (22" x 22" x 4")

Personally I would cover them with zippered covers so they could be removed for washing.

The McCalls pattern uses fabric bands sewn along one edge of each cushion to connect them. I've read people use some sort of fabric ties also. You just need to have some way to connect each cushion to the next. I like the fabric band idea.

Putting it together would be folding one cushion under the center cushion and one cushion on top of the center cushion.

The round cushion - this pattern doesn't have that feature. But I would just sew a round pillow and velcro it to the chair where I wanted it. It's not necessarily something you want permanently attached, but if you do, you can sew it to the top cushion the same way as the other cushions are attached.

Does this help at all? I would not be surprised if Joann's has a free handout for making that flip chair.

Thank you so much for this!

I agree. It shouldn't be a rocket-science project. JoAnn's very well may have the directions in-store. In the sales flyer it says, "Flip Chair: Crafted project shown"

I like the sewn band connecting the cushions as well.

Our JoAnns has been remodeling and is having a big sale this weekend (i.e. great coupons). Of course, in their infinite wisdom they actually reduced the cutting area.

If anyone has made these I would like the estimated cost for materials. Wouldn't this be nice for children and grandchildren.

Well, how cool is that. It looks like one of Joann's free handout sheets. I had no idea they had these online. I'm going to look around there a bit.

It depends on the cost of fabric and the cushions.

If you purchase home dec fabric from Joann's and catch in on sale, you might get it for $10 per yard, but most of their home dec fabric is more expensive than that.

Three 22" x 22" x 4" cushions? How much does foam rubber cost? 10 foot sheet of foam 4" thick

I have less expensive options than Joann's available to me locally, so I would check around.

I just got done making 6 cushions for my sister's chairs, and it wasn't a money saving project. Foam is expensive, even if you get it on sale. I had at least $350.00 into that project. I economized by using rope from Lowes for the cording and a solid fabric to cover it. I had zipper by the yard already in my stash.
