Okay, the wonderful posters here have got me interested in vintage machines so, when I saw this Necchi Logica 592 on eBay, it just had to join my growing Necchi collection

It was the unusual shape that attracted my attention, and I have to say I love it. There is so much open space to work with to the right of the needle.

I downloaded a manual for my new baby yesterday and started playing with it today. I have the straight stitch and zig zag figured out, but some of the decorative stitches still need more tweaking.

I would love to hear from anyone else who has this unusual machine.

Is there a picture of that machine? Sounds very nice!

Necchi Logica Sewing Machine

I hope this link works - I had a hard time finding any photos of this particular machine. The Logica has some interesting design features. The needle is right at the front, with the handwheel adjacent to the needle instead of being on the right hand side of the machine. It still has the wonderful Necchi rotating foot plate and can be converted to free arm sewing.

It's a beautiful machine, but have not sewn on one. I know Necchi made the exact same machine for Kenmore to be sold in the US. I believe these are comparatively rare.

Here's a picture of the machine. I remember wanting the Kenmore version but I think it was about $800 at the time, this was in the early '80's. I couldn't figure out how you would hold your fabric with such a short space before the needle.

That is a beautiful example - I wish mine was in such good condition.

I haven't tried anything too exotic yet, but I haven't had any problems holding the fabric.

It's so modernistic, how fun! Is that the handwheel to the right of the needle?

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Yep, it is indeed

I am totally in love with the styling and would love to find out more about this machine and why this seems to have been a one-off sort of deal.

I still love the German-made Pfaffs for their engineering quality but, in keeping with Italian tradition, Necchi has made some of the most beautiful machines, imo.

I don't think there's a single item in my house with a futuristic look like that, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's an exquisitely beautiful machine!
