Subject: New home 446 Sewing machine. Date: 6/29/10 11:54 AM

the description is...

NEW HOME MODEL 446 Sewing Machine in cabinet. This heavy-duty, all metal machine is in excellent condition. Has had a complete overhaul done one time. Smoke-free environment; regularly oiled and cleaned. Purchased in 1968. Included is a custom-made cover, which turns the cabinet into an attractive piece of furniture. Straight stitch, zigzag, designs using cams (included), easy to adjust tensions, feed dogs drop for free-motion quilting, appliqueing, darning, embroidery, etc., stitch length regulator, forward & backstitch sewing, adjustable needle position selector, hemmer foot, zipper foot (very easy to use & sews in zipper beautifully), quilting guide, braid attachment foot, blind stitch hemmer foot. Also includes Ruffler attachment.

Its 75.00 - how do these sew? Are they noisy? is it a good investment??

thank you so much!

I don't know much about that machine. but i had a new home 503 and that one ran real quited. I used it very little gave it a way to a needy person.

I had a 549 with pattern cams than ran really well. A strong sewer.
In a mad moment I sold it. It was an all metal very heavy machine.

I've now got a 632 which I don't like and will be selling once we move.

Thats a cute colour, ones I see in the UK seem to be an unattractive beige colour!
Whats the cabinet like? Even if you didn't warm to the machine could you buy it for the cabinet (if it's useful to you), perhaps then sell on the machine later if something nicer comes along which will fit in cabinet?

Is the price fixed or could you haggle?
Just some thoughts.

I had a New Home from the seventies - probably early 70s. VERY nice solid smooth sewing machine. You just never know until you try the specific machine. New Home made good machines, and then was acquired by Janome in the 60s sometime. Somewhere on the boards is a history of all that. Give it a try and let us know!

Hi RockNRoll,

I have a chance to purchase a NewHome 446 sewing machine.

How do you like yours? Is it quiet and powerful? It is a beautiful looking machine, love the color!

Thank you!
