Dritz used to make a plastic 6" ruler. It was clear, straight along the top, and scalloped along the bottom. I loved this little notion! I think it was about 3" high. This was the ruler I used for everything - measuring as I sewed and as I ironed. And I ruined several of them with the iron.
Anyway, it was discontinued about five years ago. I had one left, and somehow, when I moved from New York to Florida, it vanished. If anyone has one of these and can spare it, I'm willing to pay. I miss it every time I have to measure something small.

I have something similar but mine is metal. I think it is called a hem gauge.

They also make a little squarish tool with several measurements on it - 1/8" through 2" or something like that. It has a lot of little corners and I use it all the time. Being metal, you can't melt it, but being small, it's really easy to burn your fingers. But that doesn't stop me from using it on hems!

This was see-through; that made it super easy to check what was underneath. I have rummaged through all my stuff, and I still can't find it.

how about looking at some quilter rulers.
I use them all the time and they are clear.

Penny, I have one that I'm not using! It's called a Dritz Vue-Thru Dressmakers Gauge. I never bonded with it so I'd be happy to forward it on to you. PM me with your address and I'll send it. A regular business envelope and a stamp should work, so mailing will be easy.

Thanks so much, nan! I've been missing this little baby more than seems to make sense. Message sent! And thanks again!

I go to the office supply and buy the little 6" and 12" ruler. I use them for most of my work unless I need longer than I use the quilters rulers. They are clear and are 1" wide and 2" wide. I have several at machines and cuttting table.

These actually seem to be availabe on this site. I've never ordered here - it just turned up in a search with its specific name.

Yes! I also did a search last night. Now that we have the actual name of the item, the search is lots easier. I wrote to ask them if they still have it in stock - that site looks kind of old - and since the seam gauge is no longer being sold by Dritz, who knows? At the price of $2.35, plus nanflan's generous offer, I can be rolling in Dritz gauges before the end of July! Party on, Wayne!
Thanks to the posters who suggested other rulers; I do have a number of other clear ones (I quilt too), but this specific one is the one I found most useful.
