Boy, do I miss the fabric department at my local Walmart. I would visit pretty regularly, and from time would find some great bargains for $1.50 a yard. Of course there were times when the fabric options weren't much, but it still was great to run in and select fabric just because it was so cheap.

Just wanted to exhale/vent about missing my local Walmart fabric department. Anyone else feel the same way? Where else can one now purchase cheap fabric to experiment on?

I'm very happy that we have 5 Super Walmarts and 4 of them still have fabric. I will be vey sad if they do decide to remove the fabric department. It's inexpensive, but perfect for what I want it for.

50% off red-tag sales at Joann, FabricMart $1 and $1.99 sales, Trendy Fabrics $1.00 and $2.00 sections.

Of the 4 Walmarts in my area, 1 lost its fabric just months ago, 2 were downsized to smaller departments and the 1 largest will be remodeled soon but will keep fabrics. The 1 Walmart that phased out its fabric department had the very best selection. . . . naturally . The only place I can purchase cheaper fabric locally is the bargain fashion fabrics table at Hancock.

I will be sad if they should phase out the fabric section in my local walmart. I once found some clearance fabric at Walmart for $1.00 a yard and then saw the same exact fabric at Hancock Fabrics for $6.99 clearance. Hancock fabrics does have good sales but they are no Walmart. I find the fabric at Walmarts pretty, even though cheap as some put it. It's perfect for what I do. I find they have a nice selection of childrens cotton fabric and love their clearance fabric. I've never had any of their fabric bleed. I once had a big mess on fabric I bought from JoAnn's. Now there is some nice designer quilting fabric at JoAnn's, but you pay more for it. So just about every trip to Walmart and I'm there almost everyday, I pick up a couple yards here and there. I have fabric I forgot I bought in my stash. Better more than not enough.

Seems we are the only ones that likes Walmart fabrics. HEHEHE If I 'sewed my clothes, I may put out more money on fabric, but for piecing quilts, it wonderful.

I just found out yesterday that the Walmart that I get most of my fabric from will be done away with by the 1st of the year. They have all kind of fabric discounted. I was able to get alot of pretty fabric, but am very dissappointed they will soon be gone. I would rather pay the everyday prices and keep the fabric department.

None of the Walmarts here within a reasonable distance kept their fabric depts. I do miss them. They had some of the same fabric as Fabricland, usually at better prices. And the clearance bin had some useful surprises! Fanny's Fabrics & an all cotton fabric store closed which means choice has become more limited locally. A quilting store did open but doesn't carry much else. I'm a little reluctant to order fabric online. Prefer to run a hand over fabric before purchasing. Guess I'll be using more of my stash.....

I didn't buy a lot of fabric at Walmart, but every time I was there, I did cruise through fabric and crafts to see what they had. I did like having a place close by to get some items like elastic, thread, bias, zippers, buttons, etc for those last minute weekend repairs. Now that the whole fabrics & crafts department is gone, I wait until a weekday, when I can stop by the Hancock or Joann Fabrics close to where I work. On the plus side, it has reduced the amount I spend at Walmart in general. On the minus side, I now tend to spend more stocking up at the 50% off notions sales at Hancock and Joann than I spent for normally priced items purchased as needed at Walmart.
