I have a Bernina Nova 900. It looks like this I am the original owner. It was a college graduation gift from my mom in 1983. I have many hours on this machine and have taken good care of it. It's so cute! I had some problems with the control foot that my husband was able to fix with new "pins" a few years ago. It then developed a lurching issue. It has a unique beehive-shaped foot control. When I putzed with it I could eventually get it to sew until it finally just died. I've read some things online about the control board but have already replaced this. My sister brought the machine to 2 different repair places in Dallas and they did get it to work but it's still lurchy. I really don't want to give up on this baby and wonder if anyone else has had this problem or might have a possible solution. I've had a search on Ebay for a replacement foot control for a year with no luck.

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your 900 Nova. I don't have any personal experience with your machine, but you might want to check out Raymond White's Sewing Center for a replacement for your foot control/internal board or do a search on the BerninaThirtySomething Yahoo group. There is at least 1 mechanic there that could probably repair the board at the component level so that you could keep the foot control.

I found the information I needed at Raymond White's Sewing Center. They no longer make the parts for this machine but he had a part that could be retro-fitted to make my machine work. I spent $100 and my husband was able to install the new foot control. My old Nova is humming again.

If anyone else orders this part I just want to tell you not to be fooled by it's appearance. It has the look of a 1940's era electrical unit. It works!

Yay! Those old Berninas are definitely worth fixing up.

Thanks for sharing your success story.

I also have a Nova 900 and am looking for a foot control.
Ray's site does not appear to be working. I tried your link several times and did a search. I see the foot control you have in the pictures. Is there a number on the back. Maybe I could order this part from my Bernina dealer and my husband could make it work for me.
Thanks so much,
Hilda

I believe there has been a recent death in his family and that's why his site may be down for now.

Sometimes, you gotta go backwards in time to go forward!

I've taken some (poor quality) photos of the control foot and set-up. I've included all of the printing on these parts. I might have saved the set-up instructions and will look for them if you are successful in you hunt for parts.

Bernina Nova replacement parts

I had an Ebay search going for about a year for a foot control. Many of these generic control feet turned up but I don't know what to call the other piece with the two outlets and it's necessary for the fix.

Perhaps one of the PR members who fix older machines will jump in to offer some help.

The Nova is such a cute and durable machine. Too bad about this foot problem.

Please PM me if you find the parts. I sometimes miss posts on the Message Board.

Good luck in rehabbing your machine.

Barb,
Do you have the wiring diagram?
I've got a 900 Nova that may need the same treatment, I have one other thing I'm going to try first.
The thing you're using is an old standard dual plug control set.
The problem with the 90 foot control is the 3 wire thing... noone copied it!

I don't have a scanner but these photos should be clear enough to see the diagram.

PLEASE NOTE: The diagram shows that you need to drill a hole in the machine but the existing hole for the power cord was big enough to feed through the new adaptor. DO NOT DRILL ANOTHER HOLE IN YOUR SEWING MACHINE!

Please let me know if I can offer any more information.
