Date: 12/10/04 11:51 PM I could rave about all sorts of important things.
But tonight, after a very rainy two days, I want to rave about new windshield wiper blades that don't squeek!

Date: 12/11/04 2:08 AM I want to rave about my awesome co-workers who are contributing cheerfully and generously to the fundraising efforts I'm organizing at my office.
And my awesome manager and team leader who don't complain about the number of hours I spend on these projects instead of doing my "real" work...the manager is so great he received a standing "O" from all the staff (not just his group) at our AGM last month. ------ what if the hokey-pokey really IS what it's all about? |

Date: 12/11/04 10:20 AM Susan, I agree about the wiper blades - I need to replace mine if I can find a store around here that carries the Bosch blades.
I have raves for my electric blanket and space heater. Without them my room would freezing and I would shiver all night long!
And a seasonal rave for homemade egg nog and rum cake. Here is the recipe:
Make a pound cake (I prefer the Betty Crocker 1980 cookbook large Bundt pound cake, but your choice. Store-bought cakes can be used, but the rum sauce soaks in best with a fresh, warm cake).
Let the cake cool briefly and remove from the cake pan. While the cake is cooling, make the rum sauce:
1/4 lb (1 stick) butter (not margarine) 1/4 cup water (substitute rum for a stronger cake) 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup rum
This recipe will sauce a small loaf sized cake; double the sauce recipe for a bundt sized cake.
Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in water and sugar, bring to a boil. Stir and boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and add the rum.
After removing the cake from the pan, take a long wooden skewer or similar implement, and jab the cake all over. I like to put the cake upside down on the pan because the rum sauce soaks into the bottom better than the top. Using a spoon or small ladle, pour the rum sauce a little at a time onto the cake, allowing it to soak in. Jab the cake as needed. If the rum sauce gets cold, it will crystallize and not soak in, so you need to do this quickly. If you are using a one-piece bundt pan, you can instead just pop the cake out of the pan, pour the sauce into the pan, then settle the cake back into the pan to soak it up (gotta get one of those silicon bundt pans and try this myself). After all the sauce has been soaked into the cake, slice yourself up some cake with a glass of Nog, and enjoy. ------ mmmmm woooool |

Date: 12/11/04 12:01 PM A couple of things come to mind this minute:
I am a delighted new MIL. DS has been married for 2 weeks today, to a fabulous young woman. Another note to those of you with teenagers: not so very long ago, I wondered WHO would want him....
Hurray for a a Christmas tree that cooperated and stood up perfectly straight in its plastic stand on the first try.
DD announced that even though she has the least seniority of any nurse on her unit, the schedule was adjusted so that she will be able to spend Christmas with us. I was trying so hard to be brave about not being with her for the first time in 22 years.....
Today, I am also grateful for Steam-a-Seam. Again. ------ “Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.” -Robert Heinlein and Ann's father. Thanks for the reminder, Ann.
Where are we going, and what am I doing in this handbasket?

Date: 12/11/04 12:18 PM I'm grateful DH finally took the five giant trash bags full of soda cans and two barrels full of glass to the recycler. My garage looks half empty now! Still now way to put an actual car in, though.

Date: 12/11/04 1:41 PM Three cheers for fresh cranberry sauce on tofurkey sandwiches, for a beautiful Texas "winter" day, and for a husband who takes great pride in wrapping our 100+ y/o enormous post oak trees *way* up into the branches with tiny white lights to make our house the most beautifully decorated one in the neighborhood, IMNSHO.
And ten bazillion cheers for patternreview.com! ------ Leslie |
