There are a number of Singer monogrammers on Ebay for slant shank machines however, most say for "750 Series". What does that mean? I thought that as long it was a slant shank accessorie, you could use it on any slant shank machine.

Does anyone have and use one? What is the quality like?

You need to make sure that you get the proper plate for the bed of your slant machine. I have a Rocketeer and bought a Singer Monogrammer but can't use it because the plate that comes with it is a different configuration.

Yikes, good to know loti! I've got a 403 waiting for me at my Mom's and I'd really like to be able to embroider the shirts I make for my family using embroidery thread.

I ditto what Loti said. It's the coverplate that's the problem. I have a buttonholer for a slant shank, but the coverplate (used to cover the bobbin) is for a 650; it won't work on a 750. So I'd have to find a new coverplate if I had a 750 machine, although I have the buttonholer.

I'm bumping this topic up because I'm still looking for a monogrammer for the 403 but don't know which one.

Thanks!

You get the slant zig zag one.
However, there is a problem...you have to have the right plates.

I have two monogram sets, the regular one, with all the letters,
but it has feed cover 507661, which it says is for the touch & sew.
I emailed singer to ask them if that will fit the 401 but I don't know yet, have not heard back.
I am thinking probably I need the 86748 which it says is for the vertical needle. Though I don't know what they mean by that, arn't all needles vertical? It says zigzag slant on here.

So if someone wants this other plate...or monogram set, let me know.
I am thinking that I should just learn how to monogram with the satin stitch and forget these sets.

The other one I have is the deluxe and it only has the letters Capital M, G and R.
It seems pointless to me to have this without all the letters, after all, you would make gifts with them. I would have to know somebody with those initials. Or name my pets with those letters or something!

This kit has no feed dog cover at all.
They are both for zig zag slants.
I don't think I can use mine either unless we have a swap or something.
Maybe the yahoo groups swap out?
Anyway,
I am thinking forget the kits and just freehand it. That is my advise so far...unless you happen to come across the correct plate and all...

I would call the Singer number and ask them what plate you need.
I can't tell by this instruction book.
Feed cover 507661 is for Touch & Sew with magnetic throat plates

Oh...here is a possible solution. In my professional buttonholer kit there are two cover plates. Perhaps---they all come with two cover plates? And you could get a buttonholer with the plates & it would fit as a cover for the feed dogs?
In this professional buttonholer kit I have the second one mentioned, and also a mysterious one that sort of looks like that one, but it says 161790 which is not even mentioned in this pamphlet.
You can hardly see the numbers on here by the way, but if you see on on ebay, have them get the feed dog cover out and read you the part number on it.

On the singer accessories yahoo group, there is a pdf of the buttonhole and also monogram charts/part numbers and also photos of them.
It says which machine needs what feed cover etc.

Well all is not lost, I ordered a Singer professional buttonholer on ebay, and I received the plate I need for my Singer 500 - which is 161825. You can see a pic of it here at ismacs!

I needed the one with the indentations, not the holes. You can see the 161825 illustrated on the right hand side. I haven't tried the monogrammer yet, but I have tried the buttonhole maker and I really like it. So if you are planning on ordering it, make sure they have that plate, because I'm pretty sure the 403 and 500 take the same one.

Which monogrammer do you have Loti?
I have both of them, and now that you said that, that is the correct plate, I can use them both!
Except for, this one that only has three letters! haha
They arn't even letters, they are long posts with what looks like zig zag lines on them. I wonder if there is some way to rig them to do all the letters? Jeez. We need a library of these huh? So we could borrow the correct letters!

If anybody wants the other plate, email me! I don't need it!

I have the Singer Monogrammer for Slant needle zig zag 171256, it has round cams. I have tried it and I'm not sure what needs to be done now, the cams are getting stuck in the grooves, it moves easily for half of the letter then just grinds in to the cam... so I am successfully creating a nice satin stitch blob. Thank God the buttonholer works!! It's more important to me.

SansSouci, let us know if yours works, I would be interested in a set that actually work.
