Hi,

I need help with what most of you will probably think is a DUH question. I have taken apart a garment in order to reproduce it. It was hopelessly frayed and patched over and over. It has side seam pockets with plackets and a breast pocket with placket too. Not sure how to sew it. Help would be appreciated! Thanks

It would help if you can post photos. Maybe someone knows of a pattern with those features

What parts are confusing you?

Subject: I can help with the side pockets problem Date: 9/29/10 8:10 PM

On the side pockets, you'll notice each pocket has probably 2 parts - the holder part and the placket. If you look a little closer, you'll see the holder part was sewn to the placket and the then sewn to the piece (front or back).

Then, you can treat the piece as part of the side.

If that doesn't seem to work, then sew the pocket piece to the fabric and use the placket as a seam covering - expect to do a fair amount of handwork at the end.

The only time I've worked with a front pocket with a placket, I ended up sewing on the pocket to the fabric, and then sewing on the placket as a covering piece - it was the only way I could make it work and look correct - lots of hand sewing on it!
