Not sure where to post this; moderators, please move to a more appropriate spot at your discretion.

I received a DVD in the mail the other day from Sew News. It is a pilot DVD for their new sewing series 'Secrets for Success'. The letter enclosed explained that this was a pilot DVD, the first of a collection which I could receive in installments every 2 to 3 months. The sign-up was $12.95 for this first one, but the subsequent ones would be the 'regular subscriber price'.

NO WHERE on the letter or anywhere else was the 'regular subscriber price' revealed. I could not find the series on Google anywhere. I searched the Sew News site in vain for any information. So I called the 800 number the next morning.

The Regular Subscriber Price is $28 per DVD, which does include the shipping and handling.

I cannot vouch for the quality of the DVD as I have not had a chance to watch it, but if you receive one of these, don't be fooled into thinking all the DVDs in the collection are $12.95 - you're in for a sticker shock if you do.

Just a heads-up.

PK

Good information. Thank you for sharing. Nothing wrong, in and of itself, with the price, but I hate it when they don't provide the information up-front.

My sentiments exactly! What they charge for their product is their own business, but to hide the price (or make me jump through hoops to find it) is not fair to me as a consumer.

Hope this helps somebody in the long run.

I too was sent one of these dvds in the mail. It was unsolicited. I did not order it and now that I opened the package, thinking it was book I had ordered for my nursing classes, I cannot return it. I want to to know who sent these things out and whether or not they have access to my banking information or credit card info. It says the DVD is in relation to Sew News Magazine. It's been more than 5 years since I have ordered Sew News Magazine, so whatever credit or debit card information they have on me is no good now, since we have changed accounts and cancelled several credit cards. This is mail fraud. If they bill my credit card number it's credit card fraud. Where do they get off pulling stunts like this. I am getting ready to turn them in to the Federal Trade Commission. If they are shipping these across state line, it is a federal crime.

If you didn't order it, it's yours to keep, no charge.

OK:
Here's the scoop. I called an 800 number on the Creative Groups webiste and it's been disconnected. So I called another toll free number on Sew New's Magazine's website. After looking over Sew News' website, I don't even see these DVDs listed under their products, only magazines. So I called Sew News, and was directly connected to the customer service manager, a very sweet lady. She told me that she was NOT aware of any DVDs that were being sent out in the mail. She looked up my name and couldn't even find an account on me. It's been 5 years since I ordered Sew News magazine. She looked in her computer and can't even find these DVDs listed under their products, so she took my information and is sending all of this to her immediate boss. I told her that I know my rights as a consumer and that since whatever co. is behind this mailed this while it was not ordered or solicited, that any bills to my debit card or credit card is considered fraud, and I was NOT paying postage or wasting my gas to go to the post office to send it back-period. I don't even know how they got my mailing address. That just goes to show how unsafe your personal information is any more. BEWARE this is another magazine scam that's going on.

Does anyone have an 800 number that came with the DVD. I threw the letter in the trash. I went to get it out of the trash and my husband had already emptied the garbage. Please post to this forum, or send it to my email @ tmcnei50@yahoo.com./

As diane s said, if you get anything in the mail you didn't order, it's yours. You do not have to return it and you do not have to pay. You can keep it or toss it. It's just a "bush shaker" as my husband calls those mailings.

I got something similar labeled McCalls Quilting sent by the same Creative Group. (I have a subscription to the magazine.) I didn't view the DVD or send it back. Since it was unsolicited, I wasn't sure that it wouldn't harm my computer so tossed it. Expect to get letters asking if you liked it and if not, instructions on how to send it back. I ignored them and haven't heard anything for several months.

Thanks for posting about this. I used to get the mag for a long time-will be prepared if this shows up.
