the dark side strikes again! Couldn't resist the $10.00 price the person who had it said they didn't know anything about it. When I met them it turns out a young guy in scrap metal and this was a machine with some other stuff he picked up to him it seemed really good condition althought the 50's style fabric case has some rips.

Its a two tone dark chocolate and lighter brown model that says 201p - and it does look like someone really looked after it very clean inside, new belt, foot peddle in very nice condition no fraying, light works, the only thing I can find wrong with it is the needle clamp is not original as it sits at an odd angle and when stitching at the longer stitch length it seems to skip a few stitches. on the smaller stitch length it sews fine with no skipping and good tension.

When I looked up the serial number on the singer site the model was listed as 201k23 for that series of numbers, and couldn't find anything that said 201p.

My camera's at work but will post a pic later. I can't imagine why someone would chuck it for scrap metal. Is the P just a location or colour code?

Apparently, the P stands for Penrith in Australia, where it was manufactured. A beautiful example of one is shown here:

Thanks, - Yes that's the one same colour same base, mine's not as shiney yet though generally in the same condition. I'll have to try to do something with the case though.

Thanks

If I found one of those brown 201's, I would snatch it up so quickly it would be a blur getting to my car. Other than the Rocketeer, it's the only non-black Singer that makes me drool......

Congrats! What a score!

I think it stands for Poorpigling, she's been known to monogram her machines.

Most of the 201's here in Australia are this colour. I've seen very few black ones in my years (and years) of buying vintage machines.

What a gorgeous machine!!! I've seen a 2 tone green 201 before but never the brown. Hope you are able to get it stitching perfectly. Congrats!!!!

Nice machine.
I have seen a few on uk Ebaya for sale over here.
My Singer 185K is the same shape and colour but she is smaller like the 99 machines.

Enjoy!
