I ordered the Gingher Tailor's Point Scissors from Jo-ann's, after hearing that Kenneth King liked them. I received G-5C "Knife Edge Craft Scissors" in the mail today. Are these the same thing, or did Jo-ann's screw up?

They look the same to me.

I have them and LOVE them. Nice and sharp and can reach into the tightest of spaces. Especially nice when you're making collars!!!

Knife edge = tailor's points. Same thing.

I agree they are very handy scissors. I bought some on the recommendation of Kenneth King too! They cut through layers very well and are good for grading seams.

They are the same thing. I've had mine for years and are the best tool. They pick better then a seam ruler, help with all kinds of sewing takes at the machine and still trim and cut better then larger scissors. No other brand has a shape comparable to them.

The Gingher Tailor's Point Scissors that I've had for years are designated G-5. I have these scissors beside my SM at all times. They're very handy for snipping thread ends, grading seams, cutting buttonholes, etc.

At www.gingher.com, they list the G-5 as a sewing/craft scissors. It looks like you have the same scissors. Perhaps the company added the "C" to the part number to appeal to a wider customer base.

OK, I think I've got this figured out. Gingher makes at least two sets of 5 inch scissors--
G5

and G5C

and at least one store identifies the g5c as"The Gingher 5 inch Knife Edge Craft/Tailor's Point Scissors". I guess that Gingher changed the name to be less esoteric.

And, no, I don't normally obsess over scissors, I just didn't want to go through the hassle of a return over imaginary flaws.

That's exactly what I think. I'm sure they thought that crafting would appeal to more people than tailoring and renamed the product to fit their marketing demographics.

I love these scissors; they are much more useful to me than my other scissors (I have amassed a variety of Ginghers over the years). I thought about buying a Kai pair just to see what I'm missing, but their asthetics just don't appeal to me. Since I use the G5C so much, I'm going to buy a second pair the next time they go on sale at Joann's.
