I have Ped Basic v1, and I've installed the software on my new Windows 7 64 bit pc. When I connect the ped basic box to write to the card, it tells me there is no writer box connected. When I try to use the usb cable to get the design directly to my sewing machine, the machine's start stop button blinks, I get the little USB noise over and over, and the brother logo flashes repeatedly but that's all. My Computer doesn't show that I've connected either the machine or the Ped. Either should show as a removable device.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Another problem: I've installed Designer's Gallery CustomWorks, and Letterworks, and the updates for them for Windows 7. I merged a design with some writing. However when I try to import it into Ped Basic, the file name shows but says "no sewing data". Creating in Embird using those alphabets it does show in Ped, but of course my computer isn't recognizing the writer box.
Sigh.... I'm trying to do something for DH's birthday tomorrow!!

I went to the Brother website and found out neither my machine nor Ped Basic v1 will work with Windows 7. And there is no software update. It says if all you have is Vista or 7, you have to go into a dealer. Great -- just great. Thanks Brother, for providing updates that are easy and simple to install. This sucks.

I'm also wondering if the 64 bit is to blame.

There are several softwares that will run on 7 with 32 bit, but not 64, as a matter of fact there aren't many softwares period, that will run on a 64 bit.

I have vista and had to download off the website but have a 32 bit and never had an issue.

Did you download the program only from the website? You can't use the cd that came with it at all, if you did remove it, all.
Then go to the website, download, it will ask you for the registration number at the appropriate time.

If you still have issues, you will need to call customer support tomarrow, sorry.

Well the Brother site has 2 files, one is a Vista/Windows 7 support file, which I downloaded, then after you do that you are supposed to be able to usb from the computer to the machine to install the second file which is the actual update file. But even after downloading the first file it's not working. The machine shows as a removable drive, but it keeps flashing. And my vista is not recognizing the first support file either. It says it doesn't contain anything.
I guess I'll try calling them, but it won't do much good since I'll be at work.

Thanks so much! I figured I'd give up on the ped and try to attach computer to machine - but I can see that isn't working. I'll try this - I went ahead and removed the original ped basic.

ETA: that download did the trick!! My embroidery is going to town and DH will have a gift tomorrow. Again, thanks!
