After many years away from ME with my Viking #1+ and the old, old Husqvarna Customizing & Digitizing 95 software , my computer is no longer compatible. I've looked over this board & internet, but haven't found enough specific information assuring me that the Vikant Ultimate Box (Basic) with Ultimate Card I (supposed to read .hus formats) will work with my Viking #1+ purchased in 1994 or '95.

Right now, I simply can't afford to update to a new machine or expensive software. That's why I'm thinking of getting the Stitch Era Universal & Ultimate Box/Card.

Does anyone know whether this would work? Otherwise, it seems there's no way to create new designs for my #1+ unless I find a used Windows 98 computer.

yep, you should be able to get it even cheaper. Probably around 30 or so if you check out craigslist or ebay or even garage sales. Just get you a 'beater' computer to only do the transfer and you should be good.

I have the Husqvarna Orchidea 1250 (basically the last version of the #1+) purchased in 1999. I was in the same position as you where I could no longer use the Husqvarna Reader/Writer box because it had a serial cable but my new computer didn't have a corresponding serial port.

I bought the Ultimate USB Box (basic) & Card I and both work wonderfully with my computer and sewing machine. No problems at all. The card works in my machine with no issues just like the original Husqvarna card, and the box works wonderfully with my computer. (I'm running Vista). The Ultimate Box is even easier to use than the the original Husqvarna R/W box. I wish I'd bought it earlier.

In terms of software I went with Embird and love it too. Although you don't need Embird to use the box. The box stands alone. HTH

Thank-you Skae & Drdoct, for your help. Sew4Fun,I'm so glad to hear that everything works. I think I'll go with the Ultimate Box because I don't really have room for an extra desktop tower that's only for embroidery. I'm going to try the free (except for S&H) Stitch Era Universal with the Ultimate Box/Card, and get a real Pattern Review login name!

Hi Sew4Fun,
I know you post is older, but I purchased a Viking #1+ on Craigslist from a woman across the US, who got me all jazzed about embroidery. I upgraded from a 64 60. She sent the viking read/writer box for Parallel port. I ve owned the #1+ for 2 months. She is not answering emails.
This is a small town and there is not a Viking Dealer for 60 miles. No one here that I've found in the 2 fabric stores know anything about embroidery on this machine.
I bought the Ultimate Box and card, but I still don't know how to embroider from cassettes. The card has 20 designs on it, but when in put it in machine with em unit, etc., it sews a straight line and beeps while E in infodisplay flashes. Please help.
Thx,

What is the operating system on your computer?

Forget fabric stores, talk with the Viking dealer.
