I will be getting my Pfaff 1475CD machine today and would like to update my surge protector to protect my hard-to-replace motherboard.

Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions for brands or models to check out? Are there any brands that you would not recommend?

Thank you!

Anna

There are wall outlets that will protect from surges as well as other surge protectors.. make sure they are rated..and do buy from a reputable business..not a flea market.
But my best advise it this.. get in a habit of ALWAYS unplugging your machines after use. In Dallas electrical black out can be common.. often short also.. so no matter what the weather or how long it will be before I return to my machine.. I ALWAYS unplug them..either from the wall. or disconnect the plug from the side of the machine.. after I turn it off..

Ooo, good question, I second it. I know I need one, but the choices were overwhelming. So I just unplug my machine after every use. But also hunting for a perfect, precious older Pfaff, so better get one now.

I always unplug my machines when they are not in use. I just am worried about power surges while sewing especially with an older computerized machine.

There are so many choices/brands/features that I am a little overwhelmed. I really only need about 3 plugs that will allow for my sewing machine and 2 additional lighting sources to be protected.

Thanks!

I agree about unplugging it. I do that all the time too. As far as a serger protector I have an APC six outlet one and it works quite well for my Berninas.

Unplugging my machine when not using it is what I do also; however, that isn't going to help me much in the event of a power surge while using the machine. I do have a surge protector and hope that it does what it's supposed to do when necessary. We don't get a lot of thunderstorms in California but surges can come by other means also.

Besides getting a quality brand, what is important is the joule rating. To be effective, it must be at least a certain number. This thread is a good reminder that I need to do some research to find the latest information.

Let us know what you find out... and your recommendations GL. I may need to update myself.

BTW. Just because your surge protector strip has five or seven outlets..does not mean you should have that many things plugged in all at once.. Most certainly I would not plug an iron into a strip with anything else on it..

Absolutely! Too many things can really get to it! At most I have a lamp, sewing machine and serger in mine. But I always unplug the machines and turn the strip off when not in use.

I ended up buying the Tripp Lite ISOBAR4ULTRA Isobar Ultra 4-Outlet Surge Protector (3330 Joules, 6ft Cord) from Amazon for $38.12 and free shipping.

So far I am enjoying the unique decorative stitches of the Pfaff 1475CD and will feel better knowing I have updated my surge protector.

Thanks for everyone's input!
