Subject: Vintage White model # 764 today. Given to me by a friend,it weights a ton. Date: 1/15/11 8:39 PM

My friend dug it out of her closet. She was given it 40 years ago from her mother. This White model #764 is in pristine condition except needing oil desperately. It has the original manula and can do SS, ZZ, button holes and some decorative stitches (no cams). It is a kind of two tone beige.
From what I can find out online it appears to have been introduced at the New York World Fair in 1964. All metal , it has a bobbin winder off to the right side below the hand wheel. I will take some pics. My DH said its way heavier than my Kenmore 1803..wow. I guess I won't be moving it much.

That's gorgeous. It reminds me a lot of my mid 60s Universal DeLuxe ZigZag, which is very heavy cast iron, strong as an ox, and pretty at the same time!

Enjoy!

Oh, sorry, can't help with any details about the machine, just encouragement!

That is one handsome unit and I have never seen one like it! It's just got to be a great stitcher and could probably become your daily driver if you had no other. Congrats!

It is pristine and other than oiling it good and test driving I have not really used it since I do not have space to leave it on top of a cabinet. It is way to heavy to lift on and off too. I think one of these days I will turn my guest bedroom into sewing mostly room.

I have the exact machine and mine is almost as nice as this one. It runs great smooth and powerful. I didn't get the book with mine.
http://www.youtube.com/user/sewingmachineheaven You can see some of my machines and projects here. I'm just a novice sewer, but every project gets a little bigger and better. I was more about the machines but I ended up doing projects for things I had ideas for.

Nice, very nice looking machine. I like the built in handle. Love the knobs and the zz width slider. Really cool machine and such nice condition. Did she give it to you or did you pay for it?

Great Machine! Thats exactly like the one I learned to sew on. As an adult, my mother offered to give it to me, but I ended up buying a brand new kenmore instead.

As I recall, she finally got rid of it when the cord to the metal foot pedal developed a short and the foot pedal would get so hot she was afraid it would burn the carpet or her shoe.
