I spend part of the afternoon searching the internet for anything related to making your own braiding/trim that will match to embellish your sewing projects, such as jackets, purses, anything. Well, I am so disappointed. I was sure you tube would have someone on there showing how to make fancy braiding. I checked here on PR, to no avail. Any suggestions whether they be books, dvds, youtube instructions, etc??????

Karen,
Here is a video from Londa Rolfing. She carries the trims and has wonderful videos. I personally love her and think she has very clever creative projects. I will also PM you with more information you might want. ODy

Ody, I have heard of her somewhere...will check it out...thanks

Dustykins, what a great book....will try to find it and see what my serger can do

clt3 - never thought about embroidering a braid...what a great idea!

What I am actually looking for is how to make braids like the Chanel jackets & other braids/trims you see on higher end clothing. Thanks for the suggestions, but if you all know any more, let me know, thanks!

One of the recent Vogue Pattern Magazines had an article by Claire Shaeffer on constructing trims. I'll have to go upstairs to check which issue - looks like Vogue doesn't keep an index of their articles online!

I made trim for a jacket I just finished - and wrote about making the trim here.

Sorry to take so long!
The Vogue Pattern Mag is the June/July 2010 issue. Claire shows ways to combine purchased ribbons & gimps to make custom trims.

If you crochet, there was a discussion of crochet trims on this thread at Stitcher's Guild - the trim discussion starts on about page 7, and there are recipes for several trims. You could use yarns or ravelled threads from your fabric - or combine the two. There are so many really interesing yarns out there. I also think a plain garter stitch knit trim would look nice!

Looking forward to seeing your finished product!!!
