After watching me make my own skirts this weekend, DH has decided I should make him a kilt, too. His brother has one from a company called Utilikilt, he wants one like their Workman's style. They have the traditional overlap front, fastened with snaps instead of just a belt, and the pleats are sewn in. They are sized by belt length and skirt length. Obviously I will have to do some serious self-drafting, but I'd like to find a pattern to start from. Any ideas?

Nevermind... I just found some very detailed instructions online. But if anyone has any kilt-making experience or tips, I'd love to hear them!!

Perhaps you can post a link to the directions you found? Those do look interesting!

I'm not telling my brother about these. He wants one and I'm not ready to see him walking around in it, lol.

My hope is to sew to the very end. They'll find my head slumped over my precious Kenmore 19606 and have to pry the seam ripper from my cold, dead hands.

I made four of these. I loved it! There's a review of a utilikilt on this site by shantarra, hope I spelled that right. Husband and sons and another friend use them to run the Highland 10K race at our local Scottish festival.

Suo ergo maledicto

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. - Steve Jobs

I feel like my eyes are bleeding and I'm not even to the part where you sew the kilt!

If DH wants one he can make it himself (not that he's asked for one).
