Lost Quilt!
And it's been juried into Paducah, too. :(

My quilt, Kaaterskill, was juried into Paducah. Sadly, in the process of being returned to me, it was shipped from Golden, Colorado via UPS 2nd Day Air on February 16, 2011, and hasn't been seen since.

UPS issued a tracer, and couldn't find the package. It's been appraised and insured, but money isn't going to replace it, and it can't be remade - it's all handwork.

If anyone knows anyone at UPS who can help me find it, I would appreciate it - I can't believe it just disappeared. I'm devastated.

Ratkins, I'm so sorry to hear about your quilt. It's lovely. I never knew the Lost Quilt site existed. I hope someone out there can help.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Hopefully, UPS will continue to search for it.

The lost quilt site is a surprising resource. Thank you for posting.

Janet, I feel gutted for you, all that work to have disappeared. Did you write 'quilt" on the desciption of contents?
Do I take this to mean UPS aren't reliable for shippping quilts in the US?
I need to choose my method to have my quilt returned from Paducah- do you know how Fed Ex International is by reputation?
I am truly sorry for your loss and hope your quilt finds its way back to you once more- at least it is publically listed as stolen and missing so will be hard to pass off unless its very quietly, to the unwary, by the person who stole it if they attempt to ever sell it.

So sorry about your quilt. But congratulations on being accepted to Paducah.

Thank, Q. I didn't ship the package, a publication was returning it to me. They ship quilts all the time, so I presume they know what they're doing. I am hoping that the publicity helps bring my quilt home.

I would choose FedEx for the return service. It's the service that IQA uses to return ship quilts from their shows. UPS usually isn't a bad choice, it's just in this case it went horribly wrong. I don't remember if the AQS emails the shipping number, but if they do, be sure to check it.

The other thing is to make sure you have your quilts appraised so you can file a claim if they wander off. Kaaterskill was appraised at a quilt show. I have alerted the appraiser, and she is going to alert other appraisers in case someone tries to appraise Kaaterskill.

Thanks for your good thoughts....and I hope our quilts meet in Paducah - Aussies are awesome quilters!

Janet

That is extremely sad -- what a beautiful quilt. I hope it will turn up very soon and none the worse for wear.

Sorry for your temporary (hopefully) loss.

As far as asking an acquaintance working at UPS for help - this would probably be a no - no.

The workers and drivers are union and they have certain guidelines to follow. Taking time from their job could result in issues they would normally not want to encounter.

Same goes for management/non-union employees venturing into union territory; some lines are just not to be crossed.

There should be a tracking number that you can follow, at least I have had good luck with watching the dates and times right up to the time the driver arrives at my front door.

Keep contacting UPS. There must be some way to tell which truck was the last to carry the package as well as if, when or where it was delivered.

PS - there is always a possibility the service that was suppose to ship the quilt never did. I saw something similar on Fons & Porter- daughter Mary Fons was showing her quilt and mentioned that three pieces where lost during the process of going to classes and preparing for the show. Once the word was out, the blocks were found.
