Date: 4/13/11 8:55 AM I just discovered Pinterest - which seems to be a site on which to save images and links of things you are interested in. Kind of like a virtual pin board. Or an inspiration board.
I heard mention of it yesterday - three times from three different sources. I have no idea how new it is, but I requested an invitation and am on a "waiting list"
There is not a lot of sewing type people on it, but one person does use it to keep track of patterns, sewing ideas and fabrics she likes. It looks like it may be a nice alternative to those millions of bookmarks I have and forget about! Apparently young people use them to generate gift wish lists as well, then share them with parents.
As one has to be "invited", and I am not one of the in crowd yet, I am wondering if anyone here knows anything about it? A time waster or good use of interweb time? I did see that there are a fair number of pictures/links that come from PatternReview - mostly patterns people have sewn that others want to sew, and I did see our book on someone's wish list, which makes me think that some members must use it.

Date: 4/13/11 10:35 AM i have a pinterest account, and i really like it. you should be able to see my boards
here. i find it very convenient for not only keeping my ideas/interests in one place, but also being able to categorize them. you can also follow people, specific boards, and if you see a pin you like, you can re-pin it to one of your boards. ------ Linda
Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys, they’d just walk around naked at all times.

Date: 4/13/11 11:44 AM Hi Connie, I have a pinterest account (http://pinterest.com/quixoticpixels/) and have started using it to keep track of fashion sewing and crafty projects I want to do. There's not much on my boards at the moment, but I plan to keep adding to them. When you get your account, add me to your friends! :) -- Edited on 4/13/11 12:59 PM -- ------ Amy

Date: 4/17/11 11:43 AM Connie, I have a few boards related to sewing. On board is couture/high end clothing for inspiration for sewing for my girls. I have a quilt board, a vintage board and one for sewing organization. I have a nice sewing room but I pin rooms that I think are cool. I've only been on maybe 4-6 weeks now. It's very handy to pin a project or recipe. I always know where the project came from because it sites the original source. No more printing out lots of paper for a project.
FYI, I don't have a PR account. If you do and you can pm me with your email, I can send an invitation. I was on the waiting list and it took about two weeks. Once in, I sent my girls and a friend an invitation and it was immediate. Or another way is to go on Facebook and request an invite there. That also seems to be pretty immediate. ------ Ellen

Date: 4/17/11 2:29 PM Hi stashblaster,
I don't have a PR account or even a Facebook page. I would love a Pinterest invite if you or anyone else has one to spare though.
Thanks Connie for bringing up this thread. I too think this looks like a great solution to eliminating all those bookmarks when all I really want to link to is one photo.
I'm so looking forward to starting a few Pinterest boards!
TIA,

Date: 4/17/11 2:41 PM Ann, done deal. I don't know how long it takes but I would think you would have the invite soon. You may want to edit you message and delete your email address. Let me know if there's any problem with the invite. ------ Ellen

Date: 4/17/11 5:05 PM Thanks all! I was given an invite by someone over the weekend, so I'm "in" now! From the pinboards that I've seen, I'm so hooked. My daughters are wondering why someone didn't think of this much sooner!
Forgot to mention that I am on as "Couturesmith". Pretty boring right now, but I'll be sure to add you all. -- Edited on 4/17/11 5:06 PM -- ------ Connie Bontje
