Hi everyone. First off - love this site. Second, I have not used a sewing machine since high school. So yes, yes - I am a newbie. For the longest, I have wanted to sew again but would like to take lessons first. Does anyone know where can I go for sewing lessons in or around West Orange, New Jersey?

Thanks
Linda

It's quite a while since you posted this message, so I don't know if you're still sewing. I'm also looking for locals, although I'm in central NJ, south of you. If you're still active, I'd like to hear from you, or any other PR members in the area.

You might try checking local adult schools. Also Fabric Land on Rt. 22 near Watchung seems to be having more classes in general including some for adults. Another possibility is Acme Country Fabrics for the sewist in West Orange.

I learned to sew in Essex County (NJ) from my mom and then in junior high school from a sewing teacher who was so old that the first year she taught sewing her classes all made bloomers! Luckily we didn't - we made mumus.

Just come to say hi, I live in West Orange as well.
There is south orange adult school
It should be ok for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS , don't expect
other levels from her. She used to open a class for
jacket tailoring, I took it and it was such a waste of
money. Many students wanted to complain to the school
but I don't know if they did it or not, she tooks that class
out of the catalog and put COMPREHENSIVE SEWING instead.
