Hi everyone,

Here is the Agenda for the weekend.

PR Weekend Agenda

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Our date is locked in 14/15/16 October 2011.

If you are interested in coming, can you please request to join this yahoo group PRSDU Yahoo Group, and tell me your PR name in the request comments (or message me here if you forget). There is a database set up there to help the volunteers organise accommodation and the bus for fabric shopping.

When we know what the workshops are they will be there as well to find out your interest and if there are enough spots for each workshop.

Cheers,
Sharon

If you have been visiting the "Down Under" topic you will see that I have put up my hand to start the ball rolling for the next Down Under PR Weekend in Sydney.

I'm not near a diary at present so can't put up any dates, but have you ladies any ideas?

Besides fabric shopping on the Friday, what else would you like to do?

I will need helpers so if you are willing please let me know.

Cheers,
Sharon

Edited to add confirmed date.

Hi Sharon
Would love to attend, but not sure at this stage. We have family living at Cammeray so no accomodation is needed and if I am not otherwise committed, would love to meet up.

Re what to do...
Well socialise, shop, share knowledge and have a fun time

I went to the very first PRW in Melbourne and absolutely loved the "positive friendly energy" that was abound during the whole weekend. I loved the feeling "I feel as though I already know you" when meeting someone in person for the first time.
The fashion show where everyone tried on different garments we had made to see how they suited them. The sharing, friendship and laughter was golden for me.

JMHO I am not interested in workshops etc with just two days or so...
I love socialising and from Get To Gethers here and in the US, this is what I value most...connecting with other sewists and exchanging ideas. We can bring patterns and fabric for swaps and books to show, tell and help.

Good friends, fabric shopping, a little food and beverage, make for a great weekend.
JMHO

Like Vonne, I think the connections are the best thing about get-togethers. Workshops can be good, too.

I don't know if there is such a thing as a group "Colour Consultation" or whether this is always individual. Could be out of our price range, too.

Just chatting while we sew or helping each other with fitting is also fun IMHO.

Re accommodation: a boarding school could provide simple accommodation for a reasonable price. The downside is it would need to be in school holidays which may not suit. The other advantage is they might have a classroom where they teach sewing (whatever it is called these days ) and would hire their machines to us.

What about a measuring day a la the Big Red Book? I know it took Sharon & myself plus one other friend all morning just to do our pants measurements so I'm sure we could easily fill a day doing that!

We could also do a "bring & swap" day bringing along all those patterns that are sitting in your stash that you'll never use. I'm sure someone would like them & no doubt you'd find some in someone else's stash! Same with fabric if people have room in suitcases.

Sounds fun I just like the idea of meeting everyone and a bit of food and socialising! Fabric shopping with other sewers is something I have never done - was out the other day with my Mum who was happy to wander with me, but picked lovely silk chiffons when I was looking for shirtdress fabric! I will keep checking in.

If I'm still in Australia when it happens, I'm definitely interested. If there's anything I can do to help from Alice when the time comes I'll be happy to, e.g., I did some phoning to book us in at some of the fabric shops for the last one in Melbourne.

I loved the workshops and socializing. Fabric shopping is always fun but my stash is in pretty good shape at this point. I'd love swaps!

Thanks, Sharon!

A couple of starters this side of the ditch too. Meeting up,fabric shopping eating , socialising all sounds like fun. The measuring sounds like a good idea too, perhaps a speaker. We attended the 2nd Melbourne weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. August onwards suits me. June and July are looking crazy. Of course the more time we have the better to get cheaper flights too.
Accomadation - can become cheaper when booking for large groups.

I'd actually really enjoy a sewing retreat type thing, where there might be a couple of organised things (informal 'sessions'), but essentially we spend time sewing. Not sure how I'd go getting my machine there, though.

I'm happy to go fabric shopping, but don't feel like it's a must-do for me personally.

I enjoyed workshops last time, but again, not stressed.

I'm looking forward to being able to sit and chat.

I think it's a fabulous idea, and agree with the measuring as per the BRB (which I just had to buy after reading all the comments-did I say I am easily led?)

re the 'Colour Cunsultation' suggestion, I know of a consultant in Windsor (west of Sydney) who does group consultations for colour and style for the local community college and privately, no doubt there are others who do it in Sydney.
