Date: 7/9/11 5:45 PM I tried to find the original thread of Karen's when the big sale was on but no luck. .......... Out of curiosity I looked up the Ultra Mini current price ... it is $99.00 !!
So those of you that did buy one , do you like it or your recipients like it? I am just curious. ........... Of people that bought one to take to classes at a shop I go to I have not seen anyone bring in a Ultra Mini to class so far.
So how is it going?
Thank you for sharing. ------

Date: 7/9/11 7:09 PM I've never used mine. The kids weren't impressed with it. On the fence about selling it, giving it away, or hanging on to it. ------ Berninas 820 QE, Artista 630 PQE, Aurora 440 QE, Activa 240, 930 Record, and 731 Baby Lock Quest Plus, Featherweight 221s... |

I didn't buy one, wasn't really interested. If it had been the pretty green that was offered for awhile, I might have bought one just for the heck of it... -- Edited on 7/9/11 8:21 PM -- |

Date: 7/10/11 1:36 AM I bought one for my DGD's 5th birthday. She was very embarassed to receive it, like she couldn't believe it. It lives at my house and when she comes over she uses it. We both love it. I haven't used it without her and she has used for practice. She has sewn on paper and on scraps. She sewed straight seams and made a cover for it. She has tried all the stitches and I am impressed that the little smartie can almost thread it by herself. The stitches are nice and the blue color is pretty. I am very pleased and happy I got it for 50 bucks!! |

Date: 7/10/11 2:18 PM I gave each of my DGD's one for thier birthday and they were wow-ed by something REAL! At six they can thread it and have very good control of it. An impressive little machine so far, IMO. I think it's simplicity is it's best feature. I wouldn't consider it for an everyday serious sewing machine, more for classes, kids and the occasional user. ------ She looks for wool and flax And works with her hands in delight. Date: 7/11/11 5:57 PM I gave the one I bought to my GD hoping it would encourage her to want to sew more; don't think it's worked. But, she lives over 600 miles away and her Mom doesn't sew very often. If we were together more, I "think" I could get her more interested. When I gave it to her in March, we did some sewing on it. She learned how to thread, wind a bobbin, etc. and did a little practicing, but alas, I don't think it's been out of it's box since I was there. I wasn't quite as impressed with it as I hoped to be; it was rather hard to keep it lined up to keep an even seam allowance; not a great thing for a beginner. (think I'm spoiled to my Singer 201). But, she loved its "cuteness" factor. Terri |

Date: 7/11/11 6:42 PM My daughter has a pink one, which I got on clearance (about $69, I think) before they were discontinued here in Canada. It's a very solid, nice little machine -- no fancy features, very basic, but a good learner's machine. It didn't come with a true case, as I recall, so she can't tote it around all that easily. She hasn't used it much yet, but we tried it out together and it seems like it could handle a wide range of tasks.
P.S. For some weird reason it didn't include a zipper foot, but most people should be able to track down a basic low-shank zipper foot, which will fit it fine.

Not to go OT but when I bought my little inexpensive Kenmore to leave at my brother's home, it came with only a buttonhole foot (4 step) and a rolled hem foot. ROLLED HEM foot?! Why? It may have had an overcast foot as well, I cannot remember. But I mean - a hemmer foot. Weird. I have never been able to use one of those. HAHHA. That would be my choice of foot number at least 7. Must be six I would want first. ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."

Date: 7/15/11 0:33 AM I followed the frenzy with interest and when a Mini Ultra popped up at our local Goodwill I got it for my daughter. She was thrilled. She has used it to make two tote bags.
The stitch quality was fine, but we did encounter plenty of thread snarls. Even some not related to holding down the threads at the beginning of stitching. I think they definitely turned my daughter off from using the machine, sad to say.
I'm planning to bring this machine when I travel to visit my father. He said he had some sewing for me, and this is the perfect travel machine. I'm definitely glad i bought it. ------ Kenmore 158.14101
