I'm betting most of you have made the chocolate cherry cake that's so easy...only 3 ingredients...a chocolate cake mix, 3 eggs, and a can of cherry pie filling. It's a very good, moist cake.

Well, I decided to try substituting...used a vanilla cake mix, 3 eggs, and a can of blueberry pie filling.

Talk about PURPLE...oh my...lol, but it is SO good. It bakes at 350F. I made a cream cheese frosting to top it [I'm just thinking, I could've tinted the frosting with a drop of blue and red food coloring, to make it lavendar].

I've never tried the chocolate cherry cake, but I think I just found a use for the raspberry pie filling and yellow cake mix in the cupboard. Thanks!

I've made that chocolate cherry cake many, many times and it is always loved.

Hmmm. Purple - I have a friend who loves purple. Guess what she's getting for her birthday.

I have never heard about this recipe before, but I love quick easy, and good recipes. I'm going to have to try it. I also love purple, so I may have to try that one first. Mary, please let us know how your purple loving friend enjoys her cakeBecky

Mary...will you make purple or lavendar frosting?

Noreend...you're welcome. Yours should turn out a to be a really pretty red cake. I've never seen raspberry pie filling in the stores, where did you find it?

Becky...another variation I've seen is spice cake mix with a can of apple pie filling. My favs are the cherry/chocolate and blueberry, though.

Don't know if it will be lavender or purple - yet. I'll wait til the inspiration hits me.

I do like the idea of spice cake and apple pie filling. That sounds absolutely yummy.

I have never tried this recipe but I've got to tell you... It sounds yummy. Especially the Spice and Apple combination. I just may have to try this this afternoon.

You guys are too much -

When, and if, I ever get that cake made - I certainly will display the purple wonder here.

Thanks for all your input -

I couldn't wait....I made a purple cake this morning. Made cream cheese frosting....this is wonderful! The cake is really moist, excellent flavor. I think I'd like mine to be even deeper purple (ds's football team colors are purple and black), so I'll add food coloring to the next one.
Thanks for the great idea!
Shannon
