I'm about to give up. I found such nice denim at Lura's last year and made my favorite jeans. They have a much smaller selection this year and the only black option doesn't have much lycra (2%).

I've checked all of the favorite fabric stores (Mood, Fabric Mart, FFC, Denver, Vogue, Marcy Tilton, Gorgeous, EOS, Thunderlily, etc, etc) . One of my frustrations is the descriptions of the fabric are so vague. I'm seeing "mid-weight, heavyweight", "some stretch, a bit of lycra" and names like "midnight" which is what; grey, black or dark blue?

I ordered a cut from Fabric.com but it is shirtweight so that was a bomb.

Has anyone ordered any nice jean-weight (at least 10 ounce), stretchy-enough-to-be-comfortable (at least 3% lycra) fabric recently? I'm spending WAY too much time on this search and am ready to be done.

If this fails I will be wearing my leggings as pants.

Hi,
I'm sorry you are having such trouble with this. I was going to say Lura's, but see that you've already tried there & her selection is limited this year, so I had nothing to add. However, I was just searching for something else and see that the rainshed has some reversible stretch denim that might suit your needs. (Haven't actually ordered it myself, so no personal knowledge) They also have black stretch denim, 11.2 oz, with only 2 percent lycra, but the J crew reversible stuff says it's 60 cotton/ 32 rayon/ 8 lycra. Maybe it will work. The link looks like it will just go to their main page, so look for the denim link, item 3424 under fabrics...

Rainshed
good luck,

eta: oh heck, it's only 8 oz, so probably not what you want after all, sorry!

Thanks Judy,
I did see that cotton/rayon/lycra at Rainshed and was considering it. I'm sure it would be very comfortable. It seems like the fabric that would be used for jeggings but might look OK in jeans. I rather like the wrinkly look of real denim for jeans.

Mood has some black denim and maybe I just need to order samples. If they gave a better description, that wouldn't be necessary (I'm griping again and will stop now).

One of my favorite stores here in Dallas has tons of the stuff. I don't know if they take phone orders, but I can ask next time I'm there. Let me know, because I'm planning to stop by in an hour and a half.

If you give me the name I can call them myself. My sister lives in Dallas. I wonder if I have been to the shop.

Thanks,
Barb

One of the PR members posted info for a new fabric store in Austin, Texas.

TexStyles Designer Fabric Showroom
2605 Jones Rd.
Austin, Tx
512 212 4733

Naturally, I called to get acquainted and to find out what types of fabric he has. (About a 2.5 hour drive from here.) He makes monthly buying trips to California where he has his industry contacts. Besides being willing to ship, he will take a specific buy order so that he can look for your fabric on his next trip. If you call him, tell him that you found out about him on PR. I did, and I want him to love us as a group!

I've got some from this UK ebay seller, which I used to make the HotPatterns Slouchy Fly-front skirt. It's 11oz apparently and 3% lycra.
