I just bought myself this pattern thinking it would be easier to work with since it comes with bigger cup sizes to begin with. I'm a 34H so I really need that FBA, and using the D cup is just not gonna cut it.

I've already done a bunch of FBAs, one even on a princess seemed Palmer/Pletsch pattern but I'm drawing a blank when I look at this new pattern:

the pattern I'm working with

I'm gonna start with the size 14 and the D cup, but can I get away with only drawing the line thru the front bodice and the skirt? Or do you think I should also add more room in the side front piece? I notice in the drawing that the dart only goes on the front bodice....

I've got deer-in-headlights syndrome. Help.

TIA
Leila

Very pretty dress. I wish I had the knowledge to help you out. Hopefully some of our more experienced FBAers will chime in.

Thanks. I'm excited about it. I think I might just trace the pattern and try it one way, do a muslin, and see if it worked. I know that about 60% of my sewing time is consumed by alterations and fittings. I should be used to it by now. One day...

thanks for the reply. I was thinking it didn't post or something. :)

I'm a 32G and just bought this pattern yesterday. I was planning to use the D cup pattern pieces, as this usually works great for me. I'm scared now! I hope you figure it out.

Racehorse, I was thinking of just doing the D cup, too, but then I pinned the tissue together and checked it against myself and although it's not super accurate this way, I can still tell there isn't gonna be enough room for me.

If your fabric has some stretch in it, you should be fine- I think?

Let's be in touch about this pattern. I'm sure we can help each other out. :)

This is the sort of work I'm thinking I need to do for this pattern's FBA:

That's on a Collette pattern from another blogger I follow but piecing it together and then doing the FBA, then taking the pieces apart again... yeah, lots of work but her work pays off. Look at that bodice!

someone else's FBA on a multi piece bodice

here's a clickable link. I'm sure you can copy and paste, but this is so much easier. Leila

I did an FBA on just the center front bodice piece last night and I've got a mock-up of it here:

bodice photo

I think it's gonna work! I didn't cut into or alter the side pieces, just the front. Since the side is still the same length, I figured I didn't have to modify the side piece.

Now, the next question is... I have a feeling I should swap the patterned fabric out to the sides and the yoke and use the solid for the front- I want to minimize the look of my bust. But, will the bodice look wider if the patterned pieces are on the side?

Also, I don't have enough of the plaid to do the skirt on the bias, but since I'm an inverted triangle I figure I should put some patterning on the bottom half of me to balance my body out. Do you think it would look okay with the plaid NOT on the bias for the skirt?

thanks!

I went to another thread and I wanted to link here in case anyone was trying to work on this dress.

It hasn't been easy and there aren't other reviews so I'm leaving this link to other thread within these boards just in case it's helpful to someone.

I made this pattern this weekend. I have 40J breasts and didn't require a FBA with this pattern. I used knit, though. I did not like the final result. So if that's worth anything to you....
