This is a true sprint towards the holidays as we see how much you can sew, crochet and/or knit in two weeks!

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and we thought that we would add incentive to your holiday sewing by creating a Holiday Sewing contest for the November Challenge.

November Challenge Rules:

Items must be started and finished between the contest dates of Nov 1, 2011 and Nov 15, 2011.

Items must be sewn, knitted or crocheted.

Items may be sewn/knitted/crocheted as gifts or as holiday decorations. Gifts *do not* need to be holiday-themed. Decorations *do* need to be specifically for the upcoming holidays.

Items made for resale do not qualify for the contest.

There will be two winners. The first place winner will be by points. One point will be given for each article made and reviewed. The second winner will be by a random drawing.

General Contest Rules:

1. All reviews must be entered for submission by 11:59 PM Eastern Time, as shown on the Pattern Review website, on the last day of the contest. Contest dates will be listed for each contest.

2. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, patterns may be drafted, tweaked, and muslined before the contest date, but fabric for the pieces entered may not be laid out or cut till the start date of the contest. Fabric may be pretreated before the contest date.

3. Items intended for sale, or for which you were or will be paid to make, do not qualify for any contest, but items made for charity are welcome!

4. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, all reviews written for a contest entry must include a picture of the entry.

*Contest Eligibility

1. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the start of a contest is eligible to enter.

2. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the end of a contest is eligible to vote in a contest.

3. Any member who's won 1st place in a contest on Pattern Review ended in the previous 4 months is ineligible to win another contest (for that 4 month period).

Prizes:

sponsored by Kwik Sew Pattern Company

First Prize: 10 patterns of the winner's choice (approx $100 values)
Random Entry Prize: 5 patterns of the winner's choice (approx $50 value).

Ahh, so this is where the holiday sewing category went to. Great prizes, too! Thanks Kwik Sew! I wanted to do up some of the Ooo-rah wallets for gifts - this will be the perfect time to work on them.

I am glad we had some lead in time - I will have to search out some fabric. Anyone know a good source for college themed fabric in quilting weight cottons? Locally, I have only found it in fleece.

Are dual entries allowed? For instance, if a project qualifies for the Challenge and for Pattern Stash, can we enter the one item/review in both contests?

Oooh, exciting! I'm making a LOT of gifts this year, but I'm a month short of 90 days of membership! Oh well, maybe next year

Well this is intriguing, as I already have a list of gifts ready to sew. I doubt I can keep up with some of the more prolific sewers, but it will be fun to sew along!

Mostly, I'll be making these McCall's name pillows, a hand full of stuffies, and some doll clothes. Oh, and an apron and a doorstop. But that is my list that I have until the end of Dec to complete, so I doubt I'll get much of it done it just 2 weeks! I really want to make myself a pair of pants for the local PR day, too, so that'll take up a good chunk of the 2 weeks.
Assuming I ever finish my husband's Halloween costume.....ahhhh. The thing is killing me.

Can't wait to see how much some of you can get done in 2 weeks though!! Good luck everyone.

I think this contest will coincide nicely with the 2011 Holiday Sewing Sew Along started by minggiddylooloo back in August. I definitely plan to join in. It just might make my sewing go a little faster than last year!

I'm not sure about this so I'll check on it.

ETA:
I have the answer from the contest committee. They're allowed as long as they fit the criteria for both.

I found the fabric I needed for the gifts on e-bay. I got two different prints, 4 and 3 yds respectively. Print #1 and Print #2
I plan to make my BIL some PJ bottoms, the sister and nieces either purses or wallets, and possibly my dad some boxers. Don't know if they will all get done in the 2 weeks - but this is getting me started and I should have at least 1 entry done. Hope the fabric gets here fast. So glad for the week lead in.

I totally forgot about this challenge! But I've already started - I cut and sewed a pair of Marine print boxers yesterday for my DH's birthday gift (same day as the Marine Corps birthday!). And today I'm working on two pairs of boxers for my DB's birthday, which is a few days later. At the same time, I'm stitching the PJ pants for my sister's Christmas present. (It's all about the serger thread color.)

Hope everyone is gearing up for their gift challenge, whatever the holiday or occasion!
