Hi.
I'm way behind on my ornament making for this year and I am wondering if the GO cutters will cut felt ?
Thanks, Bert

Bert.. I am just not sure enough on this one to advise.. I hate to advise unless I have actually tried it myself.. I do know they cut vinyl...and fabrics.. but you know felt can have a tendency to pull and you may end up with not too sharp edges to your ornament.
I am guessing you have not yet bought a die cut machine.. to try this at home yourself. Is there any way to can make your ornaments from another media.. say vinyl , paper.. etc.. If so then any die cut machine. even the cheaper ones can do that.

Bert62 I would email or phone AccuQuilt and ask their people what they recommend re felt. I have one but I am not prepared to try cutting felt in it incase it causes damage to the unit as felt is very thick. Not that I don't want to help but I am concerned about possibly damaging my lovely unit.

If you need to have precut felt shapes perhaps you could buy precut shapes instead?

I have no experience with this myself, but a friend of mine used her GO Baby to cut a lot of felt pieces to use on a felt board. They turned out beautifully. Here is her blog link on cutting felt.

That link is great! I'm excited to try this. I was thinking of using fleece but a friend thought it might dull the cutting edges. What the heck, it would probably cut a few hundred before it got dull enough to not work and even though they are not cheap, dies can be replaced.

I wouldn't worry about the bulk going through on the felt(one layer) although I'm planning to use the Bigshot Pro rather than the go baby so can not speak to how sturdy that is.

You've got me feeling inspired to do some applique on the jammies I'm making the grandkids now. Inspiration is always the easy part. Thanks again for the link to those cute felt projects.

Thanks for the link. Now I've seen it with my own eyes. Can I afford the unit and all the dies (?) that comes next. Thanks, Bert

Hey, Everyone -

I also liked the link -

I am thinking of getting one of these machines -- are there hidden threads in here I should read to help me make a choice?

I'm not familiar with Accu-Cut, but I was a paper scrapbooker in another life (now i digi-scrap) and had a Sizzix machine, and now own a Big Kick die cut machine. I know that the large (thick) Sizzix dies cut felt without a problem - I have done it many times. If the Accu-Cut is similar to the Sizzix, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Oops. Silly me. I meant "Accu-Quilt." Somehow I turned it into another name. Bert
