Just a hodgepodge thread to catch up on some news, share some followup from old posts, let us know if you're going away so we don't worry and give everyone an opportunity to say hi if you've been away for a while.

It's fun to hear about upcoming trips via questions about wardrobes and packing. Let us know how that worked out for packing for India and snowbirding when you get home.

And there is a lot of sharing on PR in the individual posts. If anyone would feel like sharing some follow up to let us know how their family is it would be great to hear about any journey, whether you are traveling or not.

So, if you enjoyed your trip and your wardrobe was a hit, if you got the job, if the cast came off, if your mom is halfway through treatment, if your ship came in or if your spices arrived, if you received help from an unexpected source or you were able to make someone smile by sharing just a few minutes, please share.

If you're leaving for a while, or find it hard to smile, or if life is tough and things are rough, please share. Doesn't need to be long and explanations needn't be drawn, but do share, everyone does care.

Good, bad, indifferent or just checking in..................because we miss you when we don't see you around on the boards.

Well, .... Sunday is one year from the day we learned DH's lung cancer had migrated to his brain and that the whole situation was not hopeful. The end came on December 20.

I have often described 2010 as "the year of yes", meaning that with DH leading the way, we chose to live that year rather than waste the time dwelling on what was coming. 2011 has been a different kind of year, but another "year of yes". Learning to say yes to the help that friends offered. Learning to say yes when invited by friends ~ it occurred to me that saying "no" too many times might teach people not to ask me and that wasn' a good thing. Saying "yes" to others in need because I now have the time to reach out...

DH's younger son (age 41) was married June 2011; DD will be married June 2012. Life does go on.

As Thanksgiving approaches, my thoughts are of profound gratitude for the supportive warmth of family and friends. Gratitude also for having been so well loved for so very many years. All in all, gratitude for having had such a full and rich life so far, and hope that there is much more to come.

Hopefully that more to come will include getting behind my sewing machine finishing conquering my fitting issues so that I can enjoy some sewing for self. ;-)

What a great idea a7yrstitch. Thanks for starting this. Before I share, I want to say that this community is very special to me not only for sewing information but for virtual friendship. It has been a major part of my contentment with my new life in retirement.

This has been a momentous year for me as my stepmom died, and the family trust has now started being disbursed. Those two events unfortunately had to occur in concert, and so I am a little uncomfortable with how pleased I am to receive a little extra each month. I didn't have a good relationship with her, but I did travel down to say goodbye and to help my stepbrother with anything he might have needed. Doing that, and going back to therapy for awhile, helped me put down a number of emotional bags that I have been carrying forever. ****celebrate****

Last November, I began unloading over one hundred items of unwanted but relatively valuable jewelry, RTW clothing and accessories on ebay. Ironically, I became a Power Seller on the very day in April that my last item sold. Ebay ate up all my time, so I stopped sewing and participating on PR. But I took up bead stringing and made several simple, semiprecious necklaces and bracelets for myself.

In May, a cute, stray, terrier mix puppy wandered up to my door, and I adopted him. Boisterous but loveable Stanley joins his Yorkie siblings, Pookie and Boo Boo Then I headed down to Costa Rica as a medical tourist for three weeks. But fortunately, I discovered nothing was wrong, so I had a mini-lift since I was down there.

I started sewing again in the summer and spent a month revising a few previously sewn, tailored jackets. I added faux fur collars and improved the fit. I also spent a month drafting the pattern for a Gucci hobo bag and a Bottega Veneta shoulder bag, both of which I'll review fairly soon.

Last month, I turned 59 (yikes!), and I sewed a seven piece outfit for the Threads Sewing Contest. A few days ago, I received an early Christmas gift a PGM dress form, that found for a bargain price ($149 with free shipping) on the PGM website. I finished padding the form out this morning and believe I got a very good likeness.

Anyway, I'm happy to be back.

Well, I am headed to Iceland Monday, to celebrate my father's 90th birthday with him. Long story about why he's there, but his father was from there originally. In spite of the name, it looks like it won't be that cold, so we'll take some warm layers and some rain gear. Hope to locate and have some fun at a sewing store or two, and probably pick up a Burda....

What a lovely thread!

Marec, dropping emotional baggage is a freeing thing. I celebrate with you!

EleanorSews, what a beautiful post and an attitude to match. I enjoyed every word.

Poorpigling, my DH is retired (I work part time) and the togetherness can be a challenge around here. I need to be eBaying myself, but have health issues at the moment.

7yrstitch, what a lovely idea. I always enjoy your comments and insight regarding sewing and just life in general.

Kkkaty, sending safe travel wishes. What a momentous event and I hope you enjoy every moment, making precious memories.
