Date: 11/12/11 1:11 AM Looking to find a snug fitting t or sweater pattern for large dogs. The local shelter is asking for large dogf sweaters and I thought I might try making some. If I can find a good pattern, I may do a serger class if the students agree to donate their products. I want it snug so it will stay in place and also act as sort of a Thundershirt type principle--kind of like swaddling a baby. Helps with the stress of being in the shelter.
I have the Kwik Sew patterns but they don't seem to fit all that great plus they go down the body to far for male dogs . So anyone have any wonderful ideas for me? -- Edited on 11/12/11 1:11 AM -- ------ Brother ULT 2002D, Janome 6500P, Babylock Eclipse SX, Juki MO654DE, Janome Coverpro 1000CPX, Singer 15-91 |

Date: 11/12/11 7:12 AM Mrs.Moos, how wonderful that you're going to sew dog sweaters for your local shelter. I just looked through all the Big 4 dog coat patterns, and I think Simplicity 9520, View E is the most promising one. The pattern is sized for large dogs weighing up to 46 pounds but you could easily make it larger.
I recently sewed half a dozen new fleece dog jackets for my two small yorkies and my new twenty pound terrier mix sweetheart, Stanley, whom I adopted when he wandered into my backyard a few months ago. I used an old self-drafted pattern and sized up the jackets I made for Stanley. Here's an old review. As you can see, my old self drafted pattern is similar to the one offered by Simplicity.
To get a snug fit for each dog, you might make the jackets in several different sizes with some type of color identification for each size. That way the shelter could match up the best fitting jacket with each dog.

Date: 11/13/11 8:26 AM I think you could easily draft something. I posted these pictures in another thread about the Thundershirt. It's made out of heavier cotton knit and is doubled.
