basic mens work shirt

My husband lives in these type shirts also. I would think fitting these wouldn't be hard as it would mostly a matter of length. Make one right after the other about 2 or 3 times (I have a family and I stop and start a lot.) Then cut out several at a time of the same pattern and piece work them all the way through. In no time your husband could have 20 or more. The worst for home and yard and the better ones for wearing out more. You might want to try changing the pockets to a safari style or make them in a lightweight wool and the inner yolk a lining fabric. I have the Jalie, but haven't tried it yet.

Think 3 sons and a husband :o) It's a fantastic pattern. I definitely recommend it. And no, you don't have to be an expert to sew these shirts. Just have to take your time with the collar stands and the sleeve plackets. BTW, the sleeve placket on this pattern is the absolute best, IMO. I use this placket for all the men's shirts I make, no matter the pattern. I just ordered some lightweight canvas from FabricMart to make a shirt or two for DH with this pattern, so I'm hoping to review it soon... -- Edited on 11/28/11 12:46 PM -- ------ Trinity http://thimblesthreadsandneedles.blogspot.com/

It would forever end the question of having a shirt pattern in the size desired. I have 4 grandsons and dh that would be candidates for this. I recently bought a vintage pattern as the shirts now seem sort of not fitted well and dh isn't one that likes volumes of fabric in a shirt. Ok he is a real pain about how he wants the shirt cut. I have been picking out a RL shirt style he likes and has worn out. Maybe using a combination of the Jalie and the rtw one he really likes I can come up with him a pattern. I need the placket instructions as I have always done the bound type and mostly have only made summer short sleeved ones in the past. Thanks for pointing out this pattern. I am ordering it pronto. It looks a lot like the one sized vintage one I bought recently so I think the Jalie is a good investment if one has men/boys of all sizes that might want a shirt now and then. Dh likes cotton as he is outside a lot and our climate is hot in summer. We are having more and more trouble finding work shirts in really durable cool fabric so I guess I will go back to sewing them.
