Anyone who is a fan of Decades of Style should look at their new slideshow, which features most of the patterns in their range, all beautifully made and coordinated superbly with appropriate accessories and jewellery. Just go to their homepage, or try this link: slideshow

Thank you Freya - that was a very nice display! Of course, it helps that the model has precisely the sort of build that the DoS designs look best on (IMHO)

That said, even though I don't have that build, I love my DoS pieces

That's a great set and some lovely pieces, thanks. DoS seems to get less attention these days but their patterns are really lovely. I really like the way they did the Girl Friday blouse in that cream with black and red border print, very striking but wearable - the multiple collars originally put me off the pattern but in a voile it's not overwhelming.

Jilly, I was actually thinking that some of the 40s and 50s looks would have looked even better on someone with more curves, although I agree with you about the 30s and earlier pieces.

It occurs to me that the Arches skirt (just misstyped that as Aches, ha) would be killer in this season's midi length; so would the Shaped Seam skirt.

Laura I've worn my Arches skirt twice in the past few days - and I'm not that much of a skirt person (although I'm coming around....) That sort of skirt length, and that style with boots, is a look I really love! On me, that is.

I have to say, I think you're right about the 40's & 50's looks. However, I made the Collar Confection blouse (50's), and I had to alter it a LOT to fit my wider ribcage & waist. Of course, it didn't help that it was one of the first pieces I made after re-entering the sewing world, and I was beyond clueless about fitting, so I struggled! Plus I changed the sleeves....

I should revisit it.....

I love the idea of the Arches skirt with boots. I am not much for pleated skirts but the seaming detail on the top is killer.

I made the kimono waist (or whatever the proper name really is) as one of my first successful return-to-sewing projects. I wore the first couple versions like crazy, although I realize now that they were overfitted and I kinda made the alterations up as I went along. Since then I bought the size down which is closer to my actual top-half measurements, but I haven't gotten around to making it again.

Oh, thank you! That was so inspiring. I love vintage styles but really need to see them made up in fabrics such as what was shown. I would love to make one of those skirts.

marec the DoS designer is local to me, and her pieces are often on display at Stonemountain (my favorite local fabric store) When I re-entered the sewing world & went into that store, I went nuts over the designs, so I made up several of her patterns right off the bat.

There's nothing like seeing something made up, especially when the only other option is a drawing, not even a photo on a model.

And I still like them...although I've now made up most of my faves :)

Well, rats: DOS is running a nice sale just now and I almost fell for the triple collar blouse, but doggone it, they charge $5.49 to ship a single pattern within the US (can anyone say 'profit margin'?), so I terminated the purchase.
