In the title of one of Elton John's songs, Funeral for My Friend, I've found resonance. My friend is dying of cancer and I don't hope for her being here after Thursday. She has gone downhill quickly; since Sept. 11 and most importantly over the last few weeks.

Last night I went to her house and met with her, her daughter, and son and daughter in law. I had a gift for this woman who touched my life so much; in ways I can't mention here. The gift was a hug quilt, in teapots--something she enjoyed in the afternoons with her daughter was tea, and was made by her friends, classmates and fellow quilt guild members. Need I say purple was her favorite color? click here

Oh how sad! What a wonderful gift I hope may also give comfort to her family once she is gone. I worked with a young woman who had leukemia and she was going for her 3rd bone marrow transplant. I made a quilt for her backed in minke to comfort her as she went through chemo. Needless to say she did not make it. Everyone from work signed the quilt... Her mother sent a card saying they hung the quilt in her daughter's room as a reminder of how many more people whose lives she touched.

How nice that it was finished in time for her to see it and what a nice remembrance for the family. It is a beautiful quilt

Busy hands and warm hearts flying through the night.
Desperately yearning for completion before flight.
Teapots shared over the years.
Stitched with love for one so dear.

Warm embraces to you and your friends, Miss Fairchild, and
Prayers for your friend and her family and all of her friends.

I don't know what to say.. I am always at a loss of words during times like this.. but know I am thinking of you.. and your friend . and her daughter..
I am so very very sorry..

You've touched her life equally. Take comfort in knowing that she'll leave wrapped in a quilt created with love for her. You are a wonderful friend!
