Date: 11/24/11 3:39 AM Yes, I, too grew up on the canned stuff. There is a certain comfort in seeing those neat little grooves in the cranberry sauce as it sits in the serving bowl. I almost always make my own which is very simple but it looks quite different since I don't have the grooves in it. lol
I am enjoying your experiences in cooking your first Thanksgiving as they remind me so much of my own.

Last year I skipped the cranberry anything altogether.. Only one person here would eat any anyhow...then it sit in my fridge until I would throw it out.. Dogs won't even eat it.. So last year. no cranberry sauce or jelly.. Only one person complained.. and as it was not an animal I don't care. One spoonful of this is all I can handle.. lets just say Cranberry sauce is a victim of the economy here.. |

Date: 11/24/11 9:37 AM I make this beautiful cranberry chutney every year because it's such a good mix-in for turkey salad the next day, and my husband finally told me that he prefers the canned stuff for the aesthetics of the rings from the can. Sad... ------

Canadian Thanksgiving in in October, I make a batch then and freeze the left overs for Christmas.
I have never heard of anyone in my group of friends/aquantences preferring canned. ------

Oh well, if a 79 cent can of cranberry sauce makes my husband happy, I suppose I can do that much for him. ------
