Anyone know what's going on with Pattern Rescue? I was just getting ready to send them my boxes and boxes of vintage patterns but their website says they're on vacation October 15-October 23...it's now a month later and they're still offline. I hope they haven't disappeared!

I thought that one of the founders or main organizer was very ill and the spouse was helping and could not devote the time to their site.

Here is a c&p of the last email I got from them:

"We'll reopen on October 23rd with limited services available, and hope to have Recycle, Trade and Special Collection patterns available for you before the end of the year.

Those of you who were with us in April may remember a newsletter explaining that we'd be hiring someone to take over the day-to-day operations of Pattern Rescue because of ongoing health issues. It was the right idea, just a little bit too late.

Twelve hours after that email went out, Mary was hospitalized with heart trouble. We no sooner got her home and recuperated than Charlie's 96-year-old mother was hospitalized. Despite everyone's best efforts, she continues to fail a bit every day.

Two weeks ago we learned that Charlie has cancer.

All things considered, I won't be setting deadlines for pattern projects anytime soon....

Whatever available time we've had over the past few months has gone into getting www.sewingpalette.com back up and running as a place to buy and sell vintage sewing patterns. (Income from the Sewing Palette will allow us to hire someone healthy to run both that site AND Pattern Rescue.)

The Sewing Palette is open with some 300 patterns available now and more to come. We do need to finish the custom shopping cart and customer accounts -- which is about one normal week's worth of work. Then it's on to getting Pattern Rescue back up and running.

In the meantime, any patterns you've donated are here, safe, and patiently awaiting some attention. I'll be plowing through the backlog of emails next week. Pattern point balances will be updated and made available to you online before the next pattern groups are offered. And Post requests are the first thing scheduled to go back online.

We know many of you are dealing with your own health and family challenges, and we've watched with concern as extreme weather has caused such devastation throughout the country. As always, we wish each and every one of you the very best.

P.S. - How you can help:

We'll be re-using a lot of the computer coding from the Sewing Palette to help automate Pattern Rescue. If you visit www.sewingpalette.com/quickshop.php, you'll get a rough idea of how the new Recycle and Trade pattern pages will work.

There are drop-down lists at the top of the page to let you limit the items shown by decade, company, and a few other categories. Do they work for you? What categories will you use (or not use)? How would you like to see the sizes listed? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you previously volunteered as a beta-tester, we'll be in touch with some new pages for you to try out.

If you're so inclined, any links or mentions of www.sewingpalette.com would be helpful.

Will also need volunteers to help with entering pattern information into an online form, and will post more about that when the site reopens."

I've been wondering about this too - I got the email that Jilly cites, and was pleased to hear from them because it had been several months of silence. Then, since then, nothing, and it's been over a month.

I understand that real life happens, but they've had issues several times. I wish they could find someone to hand the organization over to if they find themselves unable to deal with it themselves. It's such a great idea and so many of us have sent patterns; I'd hate to see it just trickle away.

Yes, I agree. While I feel badly for their run of bad luck and misfortune, I wish they would hire someone. I donated a lot of patterns from a friend's estate, and it bothers me a bit that they aren't being listed.

Oh, I hope things are going better for everyone over there health wise. They've really taken on a gargantuan task with Pattern Rescue. As a former pattern seller (the reason why I have so many to give away) I can tell you that all that counting and checking pieces, plus scanning and posting is a tedious and thankless job!

Off to Sewing Palette to see what goodies I can buy to throw in to help the Pattern Rescue cause. I'm sure all of us who want us to see Pattern Rescue back on its feet can do the same!

Looks like there's a little activity at Pattern Rescue! Got this off their home page:

"September 2012 - Operation Restart begins

Pattern Rescue has been dormant for quite a while, so we are very pleased to begin restarting the site. It'll be slow going, but it's nice to back in even a small way.

The Donate page is now active along with a spanking new packing list generator -- which fills out the packing list, provides a mailing label, and gives us a heads up.

It may be impossible to handle all the donations headed our way, so the packing list generator will go offline when necessary.

NO OTHER SERVICES are in place at the moment. Work continues, but things are only being announced when they're actually ready :-) Still hope to be fully operational by 2013.

Thanks for your continuing patience. Questions? Email anyone @patternrescue.com."

Glad someone there is still working on things. Seems like they should concentrate on giving away/selling some of the items they've received before they accept any more donations, though! I hope to see them back in action soon.

Vintage Pattern Lending Library is in flux as well, personal difficulties leading to it being sold. No idea as to who or what. The Titanic project just took it out of them.
