I went shopping at Marshall's today for Christmas gifts and discovered mostly nothing in my closet looks like their trendier mdse. I did find a robe to replace my still-wonderful vintage velour Vanity Fair one that hubby is sick of.
(Who is making their robes now anyway-they only have lingerie, and most brands are fleece?)

So I'm home to purge the closet of baggy jeans--somehow my butt has disappeared over the years and moved up around the waist--plain old T's, once-a-year dressy items--3 dresses I have only worn once, etc. Plus those 1/2-way done sewing items that I promise to finish or de-construct or use for rags.

It seems like the easiest thing to save is neutrals with color added only in tops, scarves, jewelry. (NYC reports that many women have a 3/4 black wardrobe, makes it easy to get dressed.) We are in a "normal" US area of jeans/sweats/t's, capris, so I guess that makes us non-fashion conscious. I know, I know, the 1-year rule--we all think we'll get to go to that fabulous Ball as soon as we throw out something.
Now to fight the Binge part....

Who has the perfect basic closet where everything rotates nicely? For you working or traveling, how many pieces do you have for that basic 2 weeks or so?

Well, I surely don't have the perfect basic closet, and I purge frequently. DH doesn't and this weekened I had to make him get brutal. Of course he wasn't, but it was a start.

I don't even have a walk in closet, so I have to keep it to a minimum. When I see the way people around here dress I feel like Cinderella sometimes, though my wardrobe is severely lacking!

Right, retired hubby is down to t's/jeans/slippers 7 days a week, so finally he purged 2 big bags full. How many painting shirts DO you need, anyway?! And the many rayon/Hawaiian shirts are gone, finally. Still have suits that don't even get worn for funerals or such....when he opened up some sport coats 6 years ago, they were moth-eaten.
We share a small walk-in, I'm the one who colorizes his side too, but it doesn't rotate much!

I keep a donate bag going all the time, but now am reluctant to replace anything. It seems the quality of even brand-names has gone down a
lot--tops stretch out, sweaters pill and shrink, pants pop threads. Wish we could bring mfg. back to the US!
