Date: 11/28/11 5:50 PM Fit For Real People is the bible but it can be overwhelming at first. I like Sandra Betzina's Fast Fit. Not as in depth but more than serviceable for most basic fitting issues. ------ I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine... Most of the pleasure is in getting that last little piece perfect...Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just keep showing up and doing the work.

Date: 11/29/11 7:06 AM I'm a beginner when it comes to fitting, and have found Fit For Real People to be a very good resource. Whenever I'm not sure about something I read in there, I can always find help/clarification here on PR. It's true that it's a lot of info, but I'm usually one to like having more info rather than not enough. Are there particular types of alterations you're looking at? FFRP doesn't cover pants. |

Date: 11/29/11 8:08 AM There are Fit books and there are Sewing books. In my opinion, you need both in your library.
The Fit for Real People series have books and dvds that help with fitting and pattern adjustments.
How to Sew series of books are also priceless. These get into zippers, sleeves, collars, etc. Nancy Zieman Sewing A to Z is also a good source for specifics.
I am currently considering a book that goes through projects because I am seriously ready to update my self taught techniques. One I am considering is Collette Sewing Book . Don't forget to check the book reviews on the home page. That is what I am currently doing.
ETA: I know you asked for fitting books, but had to mention our Sandra Betzina's Power Sewing I can't believe I forgot these when they are beside my sewing machine! -- Edited on 11/29/11 8:22 AM -- |

Date: 11/29/11 3:40 PM The best fitting book that I would recommend is The Perfect Fit by Creative Publishing (ISBN 1-58923-227-5) because they show (with photographs) the fit problem (in a muslin - not the paper pattern draped on a body) and then they show (in photographs) how to alter the paper pattern to correct the fit problem. The book also covers the importance of fit, how to analyze your figure and has an comprehensive index. The book shows fit issues with pants, blouses and skirts. It is the one fit book I return to again and again. ------ Kemish |
