Are we sure that we can muslin a jeans pattern prior to beginning the contest?

Hi,
I am in desperate need of good jeans AND the self pride that entering a PR contest will give me:)
I figure my only chance is to plan waaaay in advance and use my spare time to start the muslin process soon.
Will this fall inside of the rules? I feel that most contests, except pattern stash, do allow muslin and treatment of fabric prior to the contest start.

Thanks!

I'm going out on a limb here, since the rules haven't been written yet, but I believe you'll be able to muslin your jeans for the contest. That's almost always a given with the contests. You just can't enter your muslin as the final project.

I am in agreement with Amy. Yes you may muslin. It is just the pair that is entered in the contest that must be in flat fabric stage prior to the beginning of the contest.

Thank you for the replies. I believe I have enough of my good denim to use it for muslin and for final project. I don't think I would be able to replicate the fit otherwise.....I scored some gorgeous, heavy, dark designer denim for almost nothing about 2 years ago. I will go ahead and start prepping my pattern and fabric! It will probably take me until after christmas to muslin them anyway.

I have the DVD fitting jeans for real people and having been watching it carefully. I am really pretty excited about working with it. so far I have not ben successful with tissue fitting but I am going to really try this time.

If your jeans are meant to be close-fitting and you plan on using stretch denim, then I have found that tissue fitting and/or using muslin without stretch does not work at all. I eventually bit the bullet and started making what I thought of as "prototypes" out of the type of fabric I'd be using. It's more expensive than your typical muslin, but it was worth it for me at least. I hope that helps!

This is great info. I was wondering about this very thing with the jeans contest. I was thinking it would be such a waste to put all that effort into the jeans and not be able to use them! Do you cut wider seam lines to allow more options in your fitting?
