Date: 11/29/11 8:18 AM wanted to share that Vogue is putting their magazine archive online at some unnamed future date. Info says "Every issue, every page, and every photo from the magazine will be online in the original context -- from 1892 to the present" here
I am hoping this will be a wonderful as it is in my head! |

Date: 11/29/11 10:26 AM That would indeed be wonderful. However, my hunch is they're probably going to charge for access to the archives or limit it to current subscribers. ------ The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.

Date: 12/11/11 10:01 AM $1500 !!!!!!!!!!
I just saw the Sunday Morning show on CBS, and they had a spot about Vogue. Access to the full archive is $1500, and subscribers will be allowed access to parts of it "free". They also have a new book out with covers from past issues. Big book, and probably Big Dollars also.
edited to add: I don't know if that is a one-time fee, or if it's an annual subscription.

another edit: it's $1575 for 1 year. They do have the following "If your organization requires more than one user, please contact WGSN about a corporate subscription." I wonder if PR would qualify, I know I'd chip in for a group account. -- Edited on 12/11/11 10:09 AM -- |

Date: 12/11/11 11:51 AM at that price every year, yes it is ridiculous. If it were a one-time charge like other magazines and their DVD archives, it would still be expensive, but considering they are 100+ years old, and started out as a small weekly, the cost per issue cost might be more reasonable. At 12/year for 100 years, that works out to $1.30/issue.
I don't care for the magazines that I've picked up (and returned to the shelf) a few times lately is - where are the clothes? I mean - for a fashion magazine, you can't see the clothes for all the "artsy" poses. I guess it's more about selling the image than the clothes now. |

Date: 12/11/11 1:50 PM Didn't read the entire article from the newspaper but one of the reasons for the high cost is that they removed the ads. It's kind of fun reading ads from way back though. ------ I have not yet begun to procrastinate |

Date: 12/11/11 6:20 PM I would only want it if it were cheaper and the ads were there. That is the fun part of old magazines. ------ Sewing: A creative mess is better than tidy idleness. ~Author Unknown
