Subject: Loops pulling to the wrong side but only SOME of the time?! Date: 12/4/11 11:26 PM

I have a White Superlock 2900 and I mostly love it. I use the heck out of this thing for my sewing business and it's been quite the workhorse. However, ever since I last re-threaded, I've been having a weird problem. (I only do 3 thread serging, if that makes any difference.) The loops are pulling to the wrong side of the fabric... but only SOME of the time! It'll serge along fine for 4 or 5 inches, pull for an inch, and then be fine for another 4 or 5 inches. I can honestly say I have never had this problem before!

The manual says to increase UL tension and/or decrease LL tension... I tried both of these both together and separately... re-threaded the whole thing from scratch... changed the needle... increased cutting width, decreased cutting width, turned the blade off and back on... nuthin'. Do I just need to take her in for a servicing? Or is this the type of thing that can be fixed by threatening to hit the machine with a hammer? (that's how I got my SM to start making buttonholes again)

My 3 year old daughter likes to mess with my sewing things, I bet she turned some knob that I don't even know about.

I think your thread is hanging up on something in the guides or maybe there is lint in the tension disc. You can floss the disc with a dollar bill or ribbon. You might watch the thread as it comes off the cones and see if it is catching on something. That is usually what causes the thread to pull to the other sde some of the time only.

Does it look like a wave? I had this before. Apparently if the thread from the spool does not feed straight up this is what happens.

I agree i think the thread is probably hanging up on something or you may be missing threading into a thread guide. It's amazing, you can look at the threading and still miss a thread that should e in a guide or one that's in the wrong guide.

The quickest thing is to re thread. If this does'nt work then it may be your new thread.
Re thread again with your old thread that you have used sucessfully or at least 3 of the same good quality threads.

I call this an elimination exercise so that you know if it's either your thread or something else!

I am thinking it's the spool, I did notice that it was feeding off the thread cone funny - sometimes it runs smooth and sometimes it goes flying. I did use a different brand than normal so that's it. I'll try replacing the thread cone before I take it in & get it serviced, that would certainly be a cheaper fix!

There is a screw that adjusts a guide that the thread for the the loopers goes through that a mechanic can adjust up or down a fraction to eliminate this if you have this happen. I saw this on an overlocker once and asked the mechanic about it. Its an easy adjustment for them to make that can make a huge difference- and any overlocker that has traditional threading done manually can have this happen. Don't panic, just take it to a good mechanic.

I was having mega problems with my Janome serger and nothing worked till I ran out of thread. Once I replaced the spool, problems solved.
Keep trying and good luck!
