Date: 12/5/11 7:55 AM This is probably trivial... but here I now have to drive on this 4 & 6 lane rotary depending on where you are in it. I find it confusing navigating all the yields & turn lanes. Might someone have some suggestions. ....sometimes people do not yield at all & come straight on through or turn from the wrong one lanes from what I can figure out?? .... I am trying to be cauticious & figure this out.
Thanks so much! ------ I am a gal from Kalamazoo.... oh what a gal... smile.... It is in Michigan... la la la ...love that Glen Miller classic!

Date: 12/5/11 8:47 AM I'm from NJ and we've got traffic circles and rotaries. The rotaries are small and tight and force you to drive very slowly (for us anyway!). The traffic circles have multiple lanes and they can be scary and crazy to drive around.
Around here each one has its own conventions - which lanes go where and when the lane change or turn is made. I'm sure there are laws about how they work too but people don't usually know what they are. We can always tell who's unfamiliar with the circle from how they drive around it.
You might try asking local police about how it's supposed to work. They usually don't mind questions like that and they'll be familiar with your rotary. If it's a traffic problem for other drivers they'll know too and they'll know where the biggest problems on it are. On occasion I've asked questions like that and the answers have always been helpful. Neighbors would know too.

Date: 12/5/11 9:10 AM They have started installing them here also. It is difficult when everyone is confused; but they are here to stay. The multi-lanes freak me out also. I found this web site that is helpful How to Drive a Roundabout |

Date: 12/5/11 10:35 AM Yes that is it ...multiline rotaries......... there were 2 pile ups on Friday in it & I was not sure where to go as no one was directing traffic. ....... Thank you for posting that! ....
Also great idea to ask local sherriff's office about it. ------ I am a gal from Kalamazoo.... oh what a gal... smile.... It is in Michigan... la la la ...love that Glen Miller classic!

Date: 12/5/11 10:40 AM First rule - traffic IN the rotary has always got the right of way. Wish I could implant that on the foreheads of the morons who almost crash into us when we are driving here on our one tiny rotary! Sigh. Good luck! ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."

Date: 12/5/11 12:02 PM When driving I avoid them if at all possible it's like playing Russian roulette the way these people drive. Geez. I would like to know who thought this stupid idea up. I was told it helps prevents accidents and slow people down, more like causes them imho. No one knows is they can go as nobody seems to have the right away. I like lights that way no guessing lol. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com |

Date: 12/5/11 12:19 PM We have one of those stupid things about 3 miles from home. I try to avoid it. It is a small country lane type, and the traffic just gets in your way if you do not go slow around it. They come from one side and go part way around and then get to the other side and off to a side street they go. Me, I want to go around the stupid thing and get to the other side. Often, there is only 2-4 cars around it at a time, as it is not in the city, but in the country. Still, it is a stupid idea.
