Date: 12/6/11 4:17 PM Yep. Why do you ask? If it's fear of threading a serger, there's nothing to fear. That being said, some brands/models really are easier than others to thread. After you learn to thread one, you can figure out how to thread them all.
I've seen some videos featuring Babylocks sergers, and on the ones that do more, it seems like there's a system to threading them too. Like you have to run it through the right port to get the stitch you desire. My point is I think there's info to memorize about threading every serger, including Babylocks. |

Date: 12/6/11 5:27 PM I have a serger, but I'm tired of spending hours threading and re-threading it when it's being crabby at me. |

Date: 12/6/11 5:40 PM None of them are auto thread. The Baby Lock brand has air-jet threading of the loopers, but you still have to put the thread through the guides and into/through the threaders for the loopers and needles.
I have the BL Imagine (air jet-threading and manual threader for the needles) and it is super easy to thread.
Visit your local dealers and test the merchandise to see what is new. |

Date: 12/7/11 4:54 PM I have the Babylock Evolve with the Jet Air threading and I love it. I had 2 sergers before my Babylock and it was a pain threading and adjusting the tension dials on both of them. I don't have to adjust tension dials since it is Auto tension on my Babylock. I understand your frustration with your serger. I have been truly happy with my Babylock Evolve serger. I just wish I had purchased it sooner. |

Date: 12/7/11 7:36 PM I started out with a Babylock Imagine and the an Evolve because I was so afraid of threading. And they do thread easily. But I have a Juki 654DE now, and I find it really as easy to thread (and I like using it better.) I do use tweezers; maybe that's the secret. |

Date: 12/7/11 10:02 PM Brother Project Runway 5234 has a needle threader which works well and I have way more problems threading needles than the loopers. The loopers are easy to thread and I was able to master them after doing it once in the store. I went to my dealer, sat down at this serger. unthreaded it and threaded the loopers on my first try. I knew it was the machine for me and was only $540. |

Date: 12/9/11 2:43 PM I agree totally with biochem. Serger threading is nothing to fear. I put off getting a serger for way too long because I read so many 'hard to thread' stories. They put unnecessary fear in me. When in fact, all you do is put the thread through a couple color coded thread guides and through a looper--so unbelievably easy! It's kind of like threading a SM twice--that easy.
And I recently posted a tip/technique about it being unnecessary to rethread everything on a serger if you break a thread or want to change one of the colors. You may want to read it because all manuals tell you to rethread but that's only because the threads have to be where they should be at the end of the threading process by the presser foot. ------ Thank you Lord for my Mother who taught me the joy of sewing. |

Date: 12/9/11 5:51 PM I had a Kenmore serger that I was about ready to throw in the street because of the threading issue! I have had a serger for years and with aging eyes, it was just too much.
I finally broke down and bought the Babylock Imagine serger with the air threading. What can I say other than, wow! I change my thread all the time now instead of just using what was in the serger each time because I hated changing the threads.
Just my 2 cents! ------ Bernina 730E; Bernina 440QE; Babylock Imagine; Janome 900 Coverstitch

Date: 2/1/12 11:04 AM I've had my serger for years and just now sat down to try to use it for the first time last night.
It's a nightmare! I really want this to be the year when I work on more challenging projects but I fear the threading issue will be the death of me! ------ Erin in Dallas
