Silhouette patterns 3 piece yoga pant

What kind of knit do I use for Peggy Sagers yoga pants. She said to use any type of knit but I am getting very sad muslims with the knits I have bought. I think one knit that I thought was ponteroma turned out to be a sad facsimile of the knit she suggested. What knit do you suggest for the beginner sewist who is trying to sew. Any advice would be appreciated.

I looked at the item she suggested, but it was a bit too lightweight for me, so I bought a Natalie knit (you can find it on the Vogue) website - I think it is perfect for yoga pants. ------ 2012 : starting stash 386, net additions 206, used 164, ending stash 428

She said that the Ponte Roma from Joann's would work well and the price couldn't be beat. I think it is $12.99/yd normally, but when you use a coupon you can get a great deal. Make sure you get the Poly/Rayon/Lycra blend NOT the 100% poly Ponte knit. Online the knits are sometimes mixed up. I have sewn with it before and it makes wonderful skirts that wash and wear incredibly well. I think it is also very similar to Juliette knit (slightly heavier weight) and a Sophia knit (slightly lighter weight). There was a thread discussion about these knits awhile ago titled "Sophia Knit" and I have no idea how to link to it, but it had some good info on it. The JoAnn's Ponte Roma poly/rayon/lycra is a great yoga pant fabric though. ------ *Jen* If I stitch fast enough, does it count as aerobic exercise?

She personally prefers the one that is poly/rayon/spandex blend rather than the poly/spandex only blend but both would work. Also recommends Sophia Knit. These are for a basic yoga pant. She also said that when using a ponte roma you should measure your hips and go down a size in her Silhouette pattern -- in a slinky knit you would go down 2 sizes. She went into a lot of fitting issues as well as a lot of variations for the yoga pant style as well as the fabric types. You can even use wovens with a few alterations to the sizing and the waist shaping. As it turns out I wore a size 10! I haven't worn a RTW size ten since I was 14! But as she explained how the Silhouette Pattern sizing works and how to measure yourself and the stretch of the fabric - it all makes sense. So, I think the suggestion with emailing pics to her is a great idea. Peggy Sagers is very helpful and I think she will be able to give you some good advice about the Yoga Pant fit and what direction you should go. And, finally, I have made three pairs of Yoga Pants (of course, I haven't done a pattern review on them yet - its on my to do list). ------ Kemish

I did not listen to her when she said to go down a size and I should have .... She was correct. I made my yoga pants out of the knit she recommends from Hancocks. Also was lucky to attend a fitting workshop and bought some of her yoga pant fabric. yummy stuff. The only problem I have with the fabric is how much cat hair it attracts. ------ Ada

Here is a link to the yoga pants webcast. It's one hour and five minutes long. Natalie is a 90% Cotton/10% Spandex knit available at The Sewing Studio in Washington state (NAYY). It is a jersey knit with 4-way stretch that has snappy recovery. Sophia Stretch Double Knit is another fabric Peggy recommended on her webcast. It is 67% Polyester/30% Rayon/3% Spandex and available at Fabric.com (NAYY). It is heavier than the Natalie knit and very similar to Ponte Roma in weight. The Sophia has 2-way stretch (crosswise grain only). Nancy's Notions is another source for this fabric. -- Edited on 12/7/11 8:40 PM -- ------ Judy

I have also used a wool lycra she had for sale at the sewing expo in Puyallup earlier this year, think she had it on the website too? Wow that stuff was nice fabric. She has fabrics on her site now that are supposed to be good for these, haven't tried any of the others but their facebook pages said free shipping today so maybe it's time to try.... Has anyone else tried the new yoga pant? I really like that one a lot, sits lower and fit me better than the first! -- Edited on 12/10/11 9:06 AM --
