I'm really in love with a particular fabric from a Boden catalog I received in mail, but I don't know where to find it. I've been to several fabric stores in the Chicago area (Vogue, Fishman's, plus the big box fabric stores) and can't find anything remotely like it - nothing that's even like this pattern but in a different weight or type. I've also searched sites like fabric.com, Emma One Sock, and Gorgeous Fabrics. In the photo here - http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Coats-Jackets/Coats/WE319-AQU/Womens-Aqua-Geo-Jacquard-Great-British-Tweed-Coat.html?NavGroupID=2 - it's a coat. I don't need a coat, so I'd like to find something similar and make a skirt out of it. Does anyone here have any ideas? I'm kind of new to the fabric buying side of sewing, so it's possible that there's something really obvious I'm missing!

That's really pretty. Here's the pic and link. I haven't seen anything exactly like it but FabricMart has a lot of nice wools on sale right now. You might watch them as well to see if they get anything.

Thanks for putting the picture right in the thread! I will keep an eye on Fabric Mart. I think I'm also going to look at some home dec fabrics. The pattern on that fabric reminds me of upholstery, so maybe I'll find something there.

Boden has very nice fabrics, they always have the 'Boden' look to them, modern, minimal and mostly geometric, but done in a kind of friendly, oversized, flattering way, usually really good quality.

I am always curious as to where they, and others, like DVF, get their fabric, do they have textile artists they work with so they always get exactly what they want? My guess, is yes.

Yes, with their prices, I'd imagine it's quite possible that they're working with people and getting fabrics made to their specifications. I really love their clothes, and I'm not above spending a lot on clothes that fit and will last, but I really can't justify the price on some of their things. Even if I needed a coat, I wouldn't spend what they're asking for that coat, particularly because it wouldn't be warm enough for the Chicago winters I have to get through. I definitely like to look through their catalogs for inspiration, though!
