Date: 12/9/11 5:02 PM Aloha all,
New to the forum, just moved from LA area to Oahu. Looking to add an embroidery/sewing machine to my Husvarna Lily 545. Needs to be larger than 5x7 area plus be able to embroider/quilt hoop through thick layers as I also quilt.
Now, I'm on a rock in the middle of the ocean with limited dealers.
One dealer for Janome - Good on repairs, but no personality or teaching skills. I'm not into classes, etc. I am computer savvy as I'm a graphic designer and have a portfolio of designs I'm digitizing to put on purses, wall art, etc.
We got killed in this economy and my DH has been out of work for more than two years. He has been forced to retire and will get his first SS check on 12/13. This machine is an work investment to expand an online store. As they say, I need to make $$ to eat and keep a small 700 sq. ft. roof over our head.
So he can get me a 11K SE ver 2 for $6K doesn't include digitizing software but I can get embird with modules. 5 Year Warranty, Classes (lol), etc.
Dealer No2 owns two locations with Viking/Bernina at one and Brother at another
Topaz 30 at $2700 - Berninas are out as the embroidery area is too small for my artwork
Brother options:
Quattro 2 New - $7500 - 4 Year Warranty
2800D New - $4500 - 4 Year Warranty
6000D Demo - $4500 - 4 Year Warranty
Brother's Digitizing Software offered at $1000
They also have a Janome 11000 with a 11000 ME Upgrade Kit for $4500 - Rev 1 though, I know that Rev 3 is available.
I've never realized how hard it is to get $$$ for higher end machines. What a PITA, what a scam really - not buying into this dealer must sell by SRP bit - must buy at retail store.
Been reading all over the Internet and so many complaints about dealers where comsumers have to drive over an hour to get to them, their pricing and service are subpar, yet they get to keep their dealer licensing and the consumer really can't purchase somewhere else and have it shipped to them. I would rather buy from a CA dealer that I know and have it shipped here. But the Janome dealer told me he WILL NOT work on any machine that newer machine that isn't bought from him. :(
Ladies, if you have one of these machines or have pricing guidance, I would love your help. I need to make a decision before year's end.
Mahalo/Thank You, Ruby

Date: 12/9/11 5:46 PM As large of a rectangle that I can get for under $5000.
The Topaz 30 does a max of 8" x 14.25" - At $2700 it has a great lower price but I'm not sure how it handles quilting. |

Date: 12/9/11 7:16 PM Why don't you post this question on the Sewing Machines topic? You would get a lot more answers than you will on the Misc topic. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors.
